wth?!!??!!? r u serious ?!!?!? i bought this calulator cuz my dad and my tutor who's an experienced teacher in teachin  IG students told me it's allowed!?!? ....i am soo gonna die if what u're sayin is true "cuz it was really expensive   :-["

Just dont make a fuss about it, most centres dont even know what calcs to allow in. Go in and do the exam - end of story.

The more drama we make about this issue the more likely it will be highlighted by CIE and then all centres will be informed. Just take your 991 MS into the exam and use it.

Nov 2004, paper2 , answer 6

a) speed = distance / time
       distance = 120-72 = 48.
       time = 0830 - 0800 = 30 minutes = 0.5 hour
   therefore speed = 48/0.5 = 96km/h

b) At 0900 hours, the distance covered is 0 because it is not moving (the line is constant at 40). Time  = 1 hour. 0/1 = 0

Ok thats the right method..
still ill solve it for ya.

y = m2 - 4n2

y - m2 = -4n2

Dividing both by -4

\frac{-(y-m^2}{4}  =    \frac{-4n^2}{4}

\frac{m^2-y}{4} = n^2

therefore

n = sqrt([\frac{m^2 - y}{4}

long q, next up

O okay, i just didnt make the y- and bla bla. Thx

K about the Quadratic thing. How did u know its an isosceles traingle. I understood everything just need to know how its an isosceles..
Thx By the way :D

In an Isosceles triangle, two sides are equal in length ; here, two of the sides of the triangle are the radius. Both mthe radius have the same length and thus the triangle is isosceles.

By the way speaking of calculators and this question...
My teacher told me a really cool trick in the calculator... If u have the (.,,,) button, you can use it to answer the questions that tell you to for example calculate the time of arrival. All you gotta do is put the hours(here 0830) like this: 08(press the button)30(press it)00(press), then - 08(press)00(press)00(press). It will give u the answer and u can change from decimels to hours and minutes by pressing the button (like the S<>D). By the way the first press is for hours, then min, then sec.

Hope u understood this cuz its really helpful :D  ;D ;)

Ya. For example 2x^2+2x-2

press the mode button. then press 5(EQN) and choose 3 (ax^2+bx+c=0) write 2 ENTER 2 ENTER -2 ENTER. IT will give u the first answer. ENTER gives u the second answer :D. If anther example (diff numbers) just change the numbers...

if u use Fx-991Ms (for a cubic eqn)

do this,..

On-->3 times "mode"--> "1" (Eqn) --> press the "right arrow" --> "3" --> type th co-efficient of x3 nd press "=" -->

type th co-efficient of x2 nd press "=" --> type the co-efficient of x nd press "=" --> type the value of "d" i.e co-efficient of x0 and press "=".

U'll get an answer..press "=" 2 more times to find the other values

e.g -> a cubic equation --> ax3 + bx2 + cx + d

Let me remind you all again, in CIE IGCSE FX-991MS AND ES ARE BOTH NOT ALLOWED!

I think the examiners in your school did not know that!

But to be on the safe side, do not use them! You gain no additional benefit in doing so. You will ALWAYS have to show your working!

By the way guys, a really important thing u wanna check when entering the exam is that your calculator is set to D (degrees). You can change it by pressing shift then mode. Choose the one which says Deg. I used to have it as Mth10 and i used to get wrong answers when doing cos bla bla...
