can u explain aadi to me oct 2003 p 4 q 5

ans 5a) i) 2/10 (total 2 cards with D)

5aii) 4/10 (4 reds)

aiii) card is red: 4/10

       D on the card : 2/10

6/10 however, it cant be the Red D card because its "or" ... so that is 6/10 - 1/10 = 5/10

aiv) theres only 1 card of that type. thus 1/10

av) no such card. 0

Q5.
(a)
i) Two cards have D, out of 10, so 2/10 = 0.2
ii)4 cards are red, out of the 10, so 4/10 = 0.4
iii)Remember Probability of A OR B= P(A) + P(B) - P(A intersection B)
Here, Prob. of being red: 4/10. Prob. of being D: 2/10. Prob. of being Red AND (intersection) D at the same time, is 1/10 (as only ONE card Is both red AND has D)
So prob of red + prob of D - prob of Red and D = 4/10 + 2/10 - 1/10 = 5/10 = 0.5
iv) Prob of red: 4/10 prob the card is D OUT of the red: 1/4
So, prob red X prob of D OUT OF Red = 4/10 X 1/4 = 4/40 = 0.1
v) There is NO CARD THAT IS RED with AN N ON IT. So, ZERO. 0.

sorry, didnt see that...

bi) 2/10 (for the first D) * 1/9 (1 because theres only 1 D left, and 9, because thats the total no. cards left) = 1/45

bii) 3/10 * 2/9 = 1/15

iii) can be A or D.. -> both A - 1/15 , both D - 1/45

1/15 + 1/45 = 4/45

biv) 1-41/45 = 4/45
