ok, an equilateral triangle has 3 sides all at 3cm; what is the height and how do you do it?!

Half the triangle, the base will now be 1.5 cm and the hypotenuse will be 3.
Use Pythagoras' Theorem, your answer should be the square root of 3^2 - 1.5^2

in May/June paper 4 2009 page 19 d(ii) part (its the last question in the paper) how do you get 1711 and 1770 I got 58 and 59 can someone please explain?

the terms would be the 58th and 59th, but the values would be 1711 and 1770 when u substitute the terms in the equation to find the nth term,
n(n+1)/2, so it will be (58*59)/2 and (59*60)/2 which is 1711 and 1770

This is something frustrating neither my friends or I understand 
I always had problems in finding nth terms and sometimes I do but in paper O/N/07 page 10 question 9 (b) part I couldnt think of a way to find them, neither my friends. Can someone please tell us a solid guide or a way to do it there are 6 questions to find nth term in the Oct/Nov paper year 2007 question 9
We will really appreciate any help, thanks in advance

Listen for nth term .. according to me is all trial and error .. u get it sometimes or u dont .. u hav to develop tht kind of thinking .. tht is by practice ..
u hav to try each and every method to get it .. i know a formula ..

dn + ( a - d )

d = Common difference  between all terms.
a = First term.

only works for numbers having a common diff.
