yeah i heard...although the only others i know of is maybe punjab and urdu and sanskrit...
no, i only wanted to know how to say the word 'gold' in hindi, and since every indian should know hindi, then thats all i need to know
yeah, but if i talked english in india i bet every shop id go to would cheat me out of my money. especially since im such a pakka.. (im not sure if thats the word exactly)

Sanskrit is probably not spoken officially any more like the way hindi or other languages are. Correct me because I'm not sure. But yeah, people do learn Sanskrit as a subject at school and it's the mother of all languages. Most of the languages here are based on Sanskrit, that is why some words in different languages tend to be similar. I guess few foreign languages are based on Sanskrit too.
Hindi, Punjabi, Gujarati, Kannada,Tamil, Telugu, Malayalam, Marathi, Bengali, Konkani, Tullu, lots more..!

as a whole , I don't think more than 0.1% are able to speak English!
