I need some help ..May 1998 .Q31 why is the answer "c" and not "b"

because if more than required current will be supplied.. the wires will overheat.. but not tht the lamp will explode..because as wires gona overheat.. they will melt.. causing the circuit to be incomplete.. so no current goes to lamp.

The answer is B.. because the current has to pass through the variable resistor in order to go to the output..thts why we can alter the resistance in B.. but if you look at A for example.. the current does not have to pass through the v. resistor in order for the circuit to be complete?

well.. it gives hint tht one or more on x and rest on y.. and if we see the combinations.. only B fits the answer as it have "one" 5 which goes to X and "2,2,2" is rest (left) which goes to Y. Its now balanced as 5=5
