I had variant 62
Wasn't too bad, but I messed up parts of 2 questions, looking at ~40/41 iA
Some people said really hard, for a few it was easy, so I guess it was average
What do you think the threshold will be?
-
I think threshold for an A should be 38-39 :-\
Many ppl in my school got confused and some didn't finish

Did you do variant 1 or 2 (61 or 62)?
Because most have different thresholds

I did variant 3 (63)

24 hours have passed ? :O
-
47 or 46 iA
fergot the exclusive thingy
-
I did variant 62 By the way
-
How did the rest of your group do Freaked
I did 62 also, many of my friends messed up
Roxy, as long as no one mentions anything specific or question related, can you leave it open
All we will say is how it was good/bad, hard/easy, as well as speculating threshold
I'm hoping its around 38-40, might get an A then

My friend who i never saw crying before was ACTUALLY CRYING
very less time....fortunately by stroke of luck i dont dwell on question for long period of time either i just write whatever comes to my mind or i leave it.
And i THINK my answers are coming correct.
hope the curve is 15 out of 50
lol jk
the toughest one 2007 June and 2009 novmeber both had curve at 37 or 38 so yeah its bound to be somewhere are 35 to 40
-
around 35 to 40*

It wa ok, but still made some silly mistakes..
-
Most people in my center loathed it. It was out of the ordinary, though. By the way I did 62.
-
WOW that bad :o
But your right
Alot of people I knew who were prepared messed up, one person left out ~3 questions
As you say threshold for nov 09 was ~36, so hopefully something from 36-40 should be good.
Overall I actually think it was straight forward now ( ;D), but they asked questions in different ways that made it tricky
Anyway, won't go any further since we aren't allowed to discuss the paper ATM
Tomorrow :P lol
-
I dont think da treshold will b so low, somewhere around 40's because da pattern i noticed is dat A/level is getting tougher 2 pass while IGCSE da opposite..

exactly
thats what i am so worried about.
and @dude22
umm i dont know they were pretty much straightforward i.e if you did past papers they would have been easy to solve
-
please moderators,allow this one.
paper wasn't that bad....too many sums on a single topic(9709/62)..any idea abt 4.ii)
-
tomorrow at 10 Am
Thats when the supposed 24 hours pass :D

is this edexcel??

correction..the lowest the grade threshold has ever gone for an A is 43 not 38..and i think this year it will be the same..math thresholds are rigid
-
it was good actually!
way better than p1! >_<
Just one hard part :P
But im happy ^^

the lowest gt for S1 was for oct/nov09 which is 37

i fergot the exclusive sh*t.damn
or else atleast i could have hoped for the whole 50/50

So u got da other questions correct, specifically da last 1 ???
-
For some reason, I couldn't work fast enough.
And I had 2 questions undone with 10 minutes left.
I would have hoped for a B. Now I'm lucky to get a D.

see the votes
3 students thought it was fookin hard and thats alot in a nerd forum like this 8)

The problem was that I could have aced it.
QQ.
-
Same here
Like in the prob dist question with ducks
I was looking at it all wrong, trying to use binomial.
If I had used combinations I would have gotten like 4/5 marks more :(

hmm..
for ducks
i got the probabily for 0 geese and 1 geese
but i couldnt find out for 2 geese
but then i remembered all prababilities should equal to 1.So i added both and minused it with 1 and voila.:D
-
tree diagram was easy i think
anyways what did you write for exclusive.i fergot the shitty formula
-

QQ.
No point regretting..
-
I got probabilities=1 but they didn't = the proof in the next part, so I know they are wrong
The tree diagram was easy
They are not independent but they are mutually exclusive, you can prove it using the formula for independent prob and ME.
I also messed up the last parts of Q7
I'm worried about p3 now since the newest P3s are hard and I make many mistakes

God damn
i fergot the exclusive and independent forumala.i lost 3 marks there.
-
Well there were 3 marks in each part
In a previous paper a similar question awarded marks like this
1 - Formula
2- Mathematical proof / calculation
3- Conclusion - eg independant or not
So if you got the rest right, but no formula you only lose 2 ;D
-
Lol, my paper was just plain ridiculous. Question 1 tried to trick us into using binomial, but it was only worth 3 marks, and my working was just plain horrible. The permutation in Question 4 was nearly impossible but I think I got the method marks for that. The rest of the paper was fine :O
-
its not a trick . they give 1 mark for stateing the bionomial expressoin 1 mark for subbing the correct value and a mark for answer thus 3 marks.
but true q4 is madnesss. im assuming you were doing 63 same one i did
-
You can't use binomial fyi. The probability of drawing a red sweet is not constant throughout the trial, which is a requirement to use binomial expressions. Once you draw a red sweet, the probability of drawing the next red sweet would have also changed. Thus, unless they say "the sweet was replaced after each drawing" using binomial would just be....strange and contradictory to what I've studied

Guys....can someone confirm one thing for me please....
In the graph question aka central tendency and spread of birth weights did we have to calculate:
1. Median and Interquartile range
OR
2. Mean and standard deviation
Thanks in advance!

I'm not sure
I calculated the Mean and the interquartile range, since they don't specify I'm hoping they will accept either as long as they are correct
-
i did median
Mode
and positive and negatively skewed
-
I used mean, median, mode and interquartile range. Though I realized I should've also done standard deviation but I guess interquartile range will make up for it.
-
hey ppl,
i guess i messed up in the 2nd part of Q4, how many marks waz it out of??????????
did ny1 do the last 2 parts of the permutation Q??????
-

Yes
i got 168 & 343 respectively..
-
Yes
i got 168 & 343 respectively..
i got something like that as well
-
i didnt get to complete the 7th question ( the last one) ....
-
Da poll shows da S1 paper waz average & +ve skew(leaning 2wards nice)...
-
i got 168 tooo, but the other part i got 2 ( i kno its wrong ;D)
does ny 1 remember the Q which says find the relationship bw sigma and mew waz of hw many marks????
-
Wasnt the 4th question a normal distribution one?
Where you had to find mew in terms of sigma or something??
PS - the mew and sigma Q was 3 marks
-
ya its da one , nd waz the first part of it 4marks????
-
i got 168 tooo, but the other part i got 2 ( i kno its wrong ;D)
does ny 1 remember the Q which says find the relationship bw sigma and mew waz of hw many marks????
yeah
i remember
first part was
5 sigma=3 Mew or other way round
(x<1/3mew)=0.82222 something
second the relationship was different
but it came something like in the end
mew/5/3 sigma=something
and i made the equation
-

it was each 3 marks
i needed to get this right to have a chance of permutations combination question(if i get it wrong) being compensated.
-
I know that in the last part, you get A=-1.5xxxB
don't remember which was which

for the graph (Q3) in ppr 62..
u could only possible get the median and the quartiles and the interquartile range..
how could you possible get the mean, for the mean you would have to add thee the 900 values and then divide by 900 which would tale ages
and standard divation wasnt possible either!
normally for cumulative frequesncy, all you have to calculate is median and the quartile stuff.
for the last question (Q7) in ppr 62
for part 3 , they asked for the way 3 out of 9 cards cud be arranged so isnt that just 3!=6..
for part 4 , they asked for different ways of the pink card >
P > pink N > normal
NNN (*3)
NPN
PNN
NNP
so there are 3 arrangments..
for part 5, they asked how many do not have the pink card next to the green card
G > green
NPG
NGP
PNG
PGN
GNP
GPN
so thats only 2 arrangements
i am sure about about Q3 but i am only 80% sure about Q7..
hope i helped!

what about mode
its also possible right
because most babies had 4 kg i guess
so thats the modal value
I only did median mode negative positive skew thingy(lol i dont know why)
-
if u look through old pastpapers
they give us the data and then tell us to plot a graph of cumulative frequency and then ask us to do the median and interquartile range.
for this question the only difference was that they plotted the graph and told us to calculate the stuff..
which should be median and interquartile range..
since this is cumulative frequency, i dont think we could have done any other stuff..
we could have done the other stuff if it had been frequency density graph, which it was not..
-
You can get mean
Make boundaries, and find the cumulative freq for each range
Subtract to find the frequency of that range
Use mid point of each group and find the mean like that
Kind of working opposite to getting at CF
As for Q7
They want any 3 in a line so its 9P3
Then you multiply the probability of getting a pink by 9P3
and the prob of not getting pink and green together ( you found it in the first 2 parts) by 9P3
-
yeah u can get mean like that.. but when ever there is a question for cumulative frequency, its always median and the quartile stuff..
maybe thts ryt for Q7..// oh well i dunno.
-
9p3 is correct
Last question is 14. I know what CIE wants.
7 x 2!=14
The _ _ _ MUST contain Green and Pink but NOT next to each other.
so thats the answer

Isnt it possible oneof dem r not in da arrangement. ???
My teacher said that its like that what they want.
You're logic is true but thats not CIE wants.
Think abt it.. Its only 2 marks..1 step working and 1 Ans
For the one you are talking.. it should cost 3 marks like the question above it.. 7 ii
-
Oh yes, da marks...y didnt i think of it b4 :(
so it seems,v hve 2 ans wat da cie wants, even if it cud b wrong..
-
paper was easy. should get 50 on 50. plz people pray that i get distinction in maths. getting close to my goal.
-
tell me more abt distinction.. like best for Maths in the whole country?? and Maths for the overall grade??
-
there r both. distinctions in country and distinction in the whole world
