ok guys, here i come with yet another unusual question.... ;D ;D
seriously i haven't seen this anywhere else :o :o
(x:15-2x?7)?(x:5x-2>10-x)
i though maybe ":" sign implies ratio which is actually division
so by taking division(ex, x/(15-2x) i tried to solve it...but this is where i could reach ann dunno how to go about it now :-[ :-[
(x?7)?(5x²-47x+20>0)
PLEASE HELP GUYS!!!!!!
-
hey i dunno y but some characters are not coming
lke the intersection character and the greater than or equal to character
anyways i'll tell u now:
(x:15-2x>=7)intersection(x:5x-2>10-x)
-
which past paper is this?
and yea..
(x:15-2x>=7)intersection(x:5x-2>10-x)
is the above the only q?
-
ok..heres it..
that ":" means "such that"...its dere in the book..read it.
k..so..
solve the inequalitites in both the sides to get
(15-2x>=7) n (5x-2>10-x)
solve them
(x<= 4) n (x>2)
now the left hand side values can be... 4,3,2,1,0 and so on
right hand side.. 3, 4, 5 and so on
the intersection is (3,4)
-
dude it means x is a set such that 15-x>7
and another set is such that x 5x-2>10-x
hope you get it!!
-
yaa!!!!
dts the only question!!!
no link to any other part,....
By the way its from june 1988..
yeah i know its too old...but dude...dts a pretty confusing question!!
-
done!!
ig uess aadi has solved it!!
not toxic!!
lolzz :D :D
-
lol..wats the confusing thing
solve the inequalitites ..thats it..
and find the intersection..
is the answer (3,4)
-
ohhhh!!!!
oh yeah i get it now
but i didnt take it as "such as"
because the whole thing was written inside the brackets....so thought maybe its part of the inequality
dude...they gotta make this thing clear in the question!!!
-
thaht is what they call IG rite??
-

PLEASE HELP GUYS!!!!!!
solve both the inequalities separately...
15 - 2x >= 7 5x-2 > 10 - x
15 >= 7 +2x 6x -2 >10
8 >= 2x 6x >12
4 >= x x > 2
now put these inequalities together
4 >= x > 2
this is the answer.
-
done dude!!!
it was alread solved!!
how was ur dad's b'day party??
-

the intersection is asked..
so it wud be.. 3,4
By the way..whose b'day party?!?!?
-
the intersection is asked..
so it wud be.. 3,4
By the way..whose b'day party?!?!?
ryt, the intersection can be anything between 4 >= x > 2
it can be 3.2 also, it is not mention whether the numbers is a whole numbers ???
i don't i think the answer should be written in this way...
abbey DAd ka B'Day tha...
-
4 >= x > 2
Simplified, isn't it x > 2 ???
-
Simplified, isn't it x > 2 ???
non..ofcourse not..it is <=4 rite..
-
i think sameer's ans is rite??
dude try picking up ur phone!!
calling from 1 hr!!
-
non..ofcourse not..it is <=4 rite..
x is greater or equal to 4... See well.
-
x is greater or equal to 4... See well.
u see well...its x is less than or equal to 4
-
baapre!!!
still that question been discussed!!
read the previous posts clealy!!!
man!!
By the way sorry for being too rude!!!
-
Ah yes...
x is between 2 and 4 or equal to 4... I misplaced the order... 2 < x <= 4
I guess am owing them :P
My excuses.... :)
-
ya the ans is now correct!!
By the way u taken add. math or not??
just to ans my doubts!!
-
Add Maths... yea.
Hey... what doubts?? :P
-
7 The position vectors of points A and B, relative to an origin O, are 2i + 4j and 6i + 10j respectively.
The position vector of C, relative to O, is ki + 25j, where k is a positive constant.
(i) Find the value of k for which the length of BC is 25 units. [3]
(ii) Find the value of k for which ABC is a straight line. [3]
l\just the last part!!!
rest is easy!!!
-
I don't take add math as yet......but anyway can u put the answer up....so I can crosscheck...I will know if am doing it correctly
-
7 The position vectors of points A and B, relative to an origin O, are 2i + 4j and 6i + 10j respectively.
The position vector of C, relative to O, is ki + 25j, where k is a positive constant.

(ii) Find the value of k for which ABC is a straight line. [3]
l\just the last part!!!
rest is easy!!!
If ABC is a str. line,
AB = hBC, where h is a constant.
AB= OB- OA
BC = OC - OB
Continues in the attachment... I allways have problem explaining answers here... Formatting is confusing... Anyway, see the attachment.
-
the 2nd part is right....even I got 16 using gradient formula......should the first 1 be found using th distance formula....i dunno...im askin cuz i didn't take add math for my igs...

ok..
first. --> AB=OB - OA = 4i + 6j
--> BC = OC - OB = (k-6)i + 15j
BC = x(AB)
(k-6)i + 15j = 4xi + 6xj
k-6 = 4x
6x = 15
x = 2.5
--
k-6 = 4*2.5 = 10
therefore --> k =16
-
why can't u use distance formula here ???

@nid - show how did u use the distance formula?
-----
BC = k-6)i + 15j
^2 + 15^2) = 25)
therefore
(k-6)2 = 252 - 152 = 400
= 20
hence, k = 26
-
summin like that....can't you
-
summin like that....can't you
arre..show na how u used it..is it the same formula?
-
arre..show na how u used it..is it the same formula?
yaa..

yaa..
kk..i have used that to calculate the length
-
hmm
aadi is there some simple method to get the answer for that question???
i did not understand ne thing!!!

i did not understand ne thing!!!
check the formula for the magnitude of a vector
-
kk
By the way i wanted for the 16 wala ans
not for the length!!!
-
what u didnt understand exactly?
now dont say everything..
-
no
got it!!
u explained it on phone!!
done i guess will solve it agian
in same meadtod then i'll undertand
By the way you staying after school irte??
tmr?? for 2 min!!

u guyz have a horrible habit of deviating away from the topic...
-
its not merely a habit bro....its our moto
haha
EADA's moto
-
haha
thanx
By the way om me or ans my question here only!!
if you dont mind!!
By the way wait a sec there is one more question to come check my thread abt ad. math!!
i'll post it there!!

I answered the second part only... He or she just asked for second part...lol
That's the first part! Distance formula is used in 2nd part...
-
Hey... The Distance Formula is derived from the Pythagoras' Theorem... That's not difficult to understand.
Use the graphical method...
Draw any inclined line on a Cartesian Plane.
I have attached a file to this post. Refer to it.
Let A (x, y) and B(x1, y1).
To find the distance between A and B, i.e, the bold black inclined line, you will need to find the length of the two red dotted lines I have named x and y.
Using Pythagoras' Theorem,
Square of longest side = Sum of squares of the two smallest sides.
Send square to the other side...
>>> Longest side= Sq. root of the sum.
And to find the two smallest sides:
x = 3 - 0 [y1 - y]
y = 3 - 0 [x1 - x]
Note that the triangle formed is a right-angled one.
And now substituting the values for x and y, you will come back to the distance formula given.
Actually, this formula is just another way of using the Pythagoras' Theorem. A diagram would help. But it takes time to draw... Maybe by Tuesday, I'll post the diagram here... It would be easy to understand then.
This formula is used both in Maths and Add Maths.
Good Luck!

Gradient formula should be used for the second 1....but for the first one i think we need to used distance formula....they did something else.....
so aadi....could u use the distance formula FOR the first one ??
@alpha-i know he asked for the 2nd one ans I know the stuff.....I was asking abt the first part cuz I used the distance formula for the first one and got a different answer

which distance formula?
arree
root of (x+x1)2+(y+y1)2=AB
-
arree
root of (x+x1)2+(y+y1)2=AB
its
-
its ^2 + (y_2-y_1)^2))
srry yaa yaa.....haste haste :P :P
why can't u use tht??

k = 26...
Which answer you got??
There are 2 answers... k = - 14 and k = 26.
-14 is negative; rejected.
-
so u get k=26 right........cuz the toxic guy sot something else
-
hmm...
to spell beans over your hard work i would like to tell you all tat answer is 16!!!
so how to get 16????
