Can a man live without a code of morality?

I pretty much follow the core duties of my religion. But I sacrifice my ethics or morality if that means I will gain something materialistic, provided the risk:reward ratio is good.

I do. I believe man is selfish and like any other animal it will betray and prey to achieve what it wants.

If a man can overcome his animal instincts and look for peace and happiness, he is commendable and respectable

Now who decides what is right/wrong? No one decides it for you. It your call

But...But...there is a certain code of conduct which is universal...No one can defy it.

No one can say murder, rape or robbery is morally right! No.

Some of our beliefs come from our holy books...major doubt! Are these the words of the Almighty himself or is it man again who tries to gain something out of it. I do not know.

Decadence comes from malpractice. The society has set some moral standards...after giving it much thought. It has been decided by concerted action of the society as a whole and we cannot undermine it. To fit in, you need to comply with the laws of the society.

But who has designed this Universal code of conduct. ::)

Saladin:
Man is a moral being. It just messes up some times.

No, the human race would be extinct if it were not for a moral code.
