If the count of Oxygen increases by 2. Then both OH groups have been oxidised further to COOH. If the OH groups have to be oxidised they have to be primary alcohols. Hence they must be attached to carbon 1 and 4. CHope this is clear.
cud u also plz xplain Q39,21,2 of nov08i got the vol. of gas remaining as 50, but i cudnt get the vol. after adding NaOH in Q2 ..
