how do i do the following
a particle P moves with constant acc. 2i-3j. at time t sec. its velocity is vms-1. when t=0, v=2i+7j
find the value of t when P is moving parallel to the vector i.

another ques:  when they say something is parallel to j, then do we say, that i=0, but in certain ques they say i=i hope u understand wat im asking
Thanks to anyone who can help

booklover: u can find the ms on ask.com and type in where can i find june 2009 mark scheme, i think the M1 June 2009 link

v=u+at
v=2i+7j)+(2i-3j)t=i(2+2t)i+j(7-3t)
parallel to i means component of j=0
7-3t=0
t=7/3

when they say parallel to j means i component of velocity=0
I will do a page on relative velocites on my website
I already have a page for relative positions

Thanks winnie...:D

lissen i have a doubt too in vectors!

A ship S is moving with constant velocity (2i-3j) kmh and a ship R is moving with constant velocity 6i kmh.

a. Find the bearing along which S is moving?

At noon S is at the point with position vector 8i km and R is at O. At time t hours after noon, the position vectors of S and T are s km and r km respectively.

b.Find s and r, in terms of t

At time T HOURS, R is due north-east of S. Find:

c.the value of T
d. the distance between S and R at time T hours.

i did all da parts except c and d where i dont knw how to calculate north-east! :(
plz answer b4 midnyt! or else wont be able to sleep at nyt ;P
