paper 3 oct/nov 2008 q (2) all please and :D thank you

--- End quote ---

thats easy

look first
a)
u no that moment=force * distance
so 4 instance i chose 200g and 100g
to make sure they both have da same moment
200*4=100*8
800=800
so that its at equilibrium

b)
It will stay stable which ensures that its at equilibrium.

c)
do the same thing i used to explain part a)
M1=200*10*4(*10 because its force and 200g is mass so *10 to make it weight)
m2=100*10*8

M1=M2
8000Nm=8000Nm
and the answer 4 da 2 blaks is 8000 or wateva accordind to ur chosen values

d) (200*10)+(100*10)+(200*10)

=5000N
i multiplies each one by 10 to make them forces

hope it helped :)

hello eamyzz
just need to confirm one thing
are u sure that the answer for d) is 5000N
if so plz explain me how..
if u read my answer i have written 5N
because 200 + 200 + 100 = 500g = 500/100 N = 5N
thanks
 :)

sweetie:
i think da easiest way is  2 draw a parallelogram ;)

--- Quote from: Shogun on June 03, 2009, 04:21:16 pm ---2a) put different value of masses on bothe sides of the pivot  but make sure tht after using the formula (fxd) (where
f=force and d=distance) the product must be same. (then only they are balanced i.e in equilibrium)

 the distance are given for each hole to the pivot. so i recomend to take the first hole(with distance 4cm) and add mass 200g at one side of the pivot. and on the other side,  add mass 100g on the second hole (with disatnce 8 cm from teh pivot)

but first convert the masses to forces by multiplying the mass into 10, so 200( convert this to killogram by deviding it by 1000 ) 0.2 x 10 u get 2
so when using the formula "fxd " u get on one side: 2x4=8Nm
                                                     and
                                                   on the other side: 1x8=8Nm
                         - see both have the same product so it is now they are balanced(in equilibrium)

ans2b) the disc does not move or rotate as u put the mass so they are balanced so no turning effect which means no moment.

c)use formula "fxd" but convert the mass in to force but multiplying them in to 10 and convert the mass to kg first
               2x4=8Nm
               1x8=8Nm

d)this is the force of pivot which is downwar to get tht simply add the masses u put
1+8=9N

but rmember u can choose any mass at any distance but the product with equation "fxd" must be same

thts all,hope this helped, any confusion or difficulties or help u need, im all here

--- End quote ---
how o u get the d) answer as "1+8"
the masses chosen is 200g and 100g = 2N and 1N --> 3N + 2N(of the disc) = 5N
am i correct
i am not sure
plzz help
thank u :)

ya sure...look u didnt multiply the masses by 10 to make them forces
look this would b da answer if u did
=(200*10)+(200*10)+(100*10)
=2000+2000+1000
=5000N
thats all :)
if its still not clear dont hesitate to say it ;)

Shogun:
nope i was worng ,ur correct, it is my silly mistake to add 8, but i corrected it in the previous page... ;D
