Prefer only internet over the books. If books are totally kept aside, they have lost it.

Continuous efforts matter more than the outcome.

Books are said to be the better source. BUT, you can't say internet resources are not trustworthy.

A book is written by an author(s) after extensive research, and rechecked if the information is all proven right before being published.

But for internet resources you've to make sure that the information you receive is authenticated and proven to be correct. Like for example,  have some really good websites for Biology and chemistry and they are reliable.

While there are some of them, like say, tit-bits about celebrities. People can write things about them based on their own opinion, post it on the net and make other people believe what they say is right.  ::)

Student's today like to access information from the internet because it is easy and provides the opportunity to multi-task.

Books are, like previously pointed out, more reliable and is authenticated. However with time information becomes obsolete and new editions of books keep emerging in the market, though not always fast enough. Internet makes it possible so that information on webpages like Wikipedia is updated everyday with the occurrence of any changes in the research and the world around us, so especially for students studying realtime problems such as geography and economics the internet helps keeping them up-to-date.

Also, internet provides cheap, vast and various forms of knowledge (videos, photos, articles, etc) which can be a great aide in learning. In fact, many modern schools do not endorse books at all and instead students study from online resources. Of course, the eminent problem is the authentication of sources, for which one needs experience and even teachers can tell you which sites to go to for extra help in their subjects.

In the end, both sources of knowledge are indisposable. If you carry them alongside, like most good things in life, you'll take benefits from both.
All that is on earth will perish:
But will abide (forever) the Face of thy Lord--full of Majesty, Bounty & Honor.
Then which of the favors of your Lord will ye deny?

Books are of course reliable.

There are many peer-reviewed, revised resources that are up on the internet (which are quite more updated than books), that you can use. Otherwise, any webpage that is not trusted, should not be used.

Internet can rather be used as a reference to your doubts.
