Resitting?
« on: August 11, 2011, 05:15:00 pm »
So I got my AS Biology result a few hours back, and sad to say it was not up to my expectations. :(

I'm planning to resit Biology but my school does not want me to. They believe I can catch up for Biology while sitting for my A2. (Am proud of their confidence in me :P But am not happy myself)

I'm planning to sit for the November session privately. The problem arises here. Should I be sitting for Biology for A2 privately? My overall AL Biology result, will it be calculated with the result I got for my Nov 2011 sitting + June 2012 sitting (Since am doing my November 2011 sitting privately), or my June 2011 sitting + June 2012 sitting?

Thank You for your kind replies. :)

Awwwww! :( Why? :(

If yer confident enough and mentally prepared then sure why not? :D Go do it again. :D

Ok, as for your over-all A-level, when you do the exam in Oct/Nov 2011. The results will be out in Jan 2012.
Then when you register for your 2012 June A2 exam, you have to choose which AS grade you are opting for. . . AS June 2011 OR AS Nov 2011. (Tick whichever you want :P)

So yeah. . . . All the best! ;D

Sorry if I couldn't be of much help. I hope yuh get a better response. :P

It depends on how big a leap do you want and what had you actually expected before you got your grades. Appearing privately might make it hard for you to focus on your other subjects; but yeah, I can't really if it's a great idea or not unless I knew how big a jump you want. Though, if I were you I'd resit in June 2012 when I gave my other A2 components.

I got a D for Biology (Not my favourite subject anyways <-- Wrong attitude I know::) ) InshaAllah I'm hoping for an A.

The reason why I do NOT want to do it with A2 is, then I'll have to do it through school. The school messed up my biology practicals BIG time. The microscopes weren't working properly and the solutions weren't made on time, need I say more?I do not want to take a chance and mess up my Biology practicals again.

So you have a choice between which results should be taken into overall consideration even though I do my AS in a different center?

You can always sit in your A2 privately, but in the June 2012 session. The reason I recommend that you wait for June 2012 is because for one subject, you will make your winters very hectic and might not have enough practice to secure a good grade anyhow. Whereas if you sit for it in 2012 you have plenty of time to slowly work on it and also, won't be significantly neglecting your other subjects. :)

Oh. Different centres? Then THAT way I am not sure. :-\

Try asking yer school about it? Or call British Council?

Alhamdulillah I'm fine with my theory, its just the practical and since their is no option in CIE to resit ONLY the practical...
Thanks Chingoo. :)

My school might go berserk. They do not want me in anyway to repeat my AS.

As for asking the British Council, they recommend me doing ALL my subjects for A2 through British Council instead of the school. ::)

They are SriLankans actually. :P

School's closed for Ramadhan, I'll try asking the teacher in charge for AS CIE applications.

Thanks a lot Romeesa. :)
