Dubai style growth or Saudi style of economic growth
« on: December 21, 2010, 10:50:17 am »
Which do you prefer.
Discuss discuss  ;D

Saudi Arabia’s economy has changed a lot over the last few years, in terms of size and capacity. Back in 2003 it was a $213 billion economy, today it has more than doubled. Few countries have the ability to double in size in the space of six years. Within the same period, however, the country’s actual budget has grown from $69 billion to $170 billion, a near threefold expansion. As per capita incomes shrink in many euro zone economies, Saudi Arabia since 2003 had been able to nearly double its own.
In 2005, the education budget of Saudi Arabia amounted to SR70 billion, in the 2011 budget it amounts to SR150, an increase of more than 100 percent.

Personally I don't like the attitude of some of the people of  KSA when it comes to this issue.

They blame Dubai's growth is due to "Zionist principles and system".

This is obviously short sighted.

Will elaborate later

Why do you prefer Dubai instead of Saudi Arabia.

Their growth has resulted in billions of dollars worth of debt, it is so lucky to have Abu Dhabi as its Sugar Daddy.

Mean while Saudi Arabia is being more cautious. Benefits you can see if you come to Riyadh Jeddah or Khobar.

Third highest foreign reserves in the world, with 175 billion Saudi riyals allocated to education alone along with doubling of per capita in just seven years etc etc.

And if you compare it's size and population with UAE, it is nothing short of a miracle.
8 Economic cities are being developed through out the country and 3 of them are like in literal sense Cites.
My dad is working on a project as well in King Abdullah economic city and if this city is completed successfully it will be a pride to both the Saudis and muslims world wide.

I don't mean a rivalry. Both of the states are muslim states and thus, our brothers. Both of them has achieved remarkable economic success.

My point was that, there should not be any rivalry between the two states. Like one state blaming the other as I illustrated above.

Hey they are not rivals in literal sense. News like Saudi Prince marrying a Emirati princess is not rare.
A Saudi citizen can cross into UAE just by showing the ID card and vice versa.

The only rivalry is in economic field as they are two gigantic economics in the arab and muslim world. And for sure i have never heard of any Saudi saying what you just wrote.I think :/

well actually evn though ive never been to saudi and i live in dubai and all, i'd say saudi is better in terms of prices.
stuff there is like cheaper than dubai!!! heck evn india is becoming cheaper than dubai!! :P :P
but the uae grants more freedom than saudi mainly because saudi is more strict in terms of islam related laws!!
so dubai is better than saudi in those terms!! :P!
but it doesnt really matter does it??? atleast the gulf is stable in terms of political issues!!!
You gotzz to cheel!!!! tuh-may-toez and un-yunz!!!

I dont know about you, but the last time I checked Dubai wasnt a country ;)

The UAE may be considered to be a NIC (Newly Industrialized Country). Definitely not an LEDC.
