organic chemistry help required. plz

how can we determine which are the functional group of a organic compound. Can someone explain me for this compound 3-methyl-hex-2-enol

the answer for that is that -OH is functional froup for 3-methyl-hex-2-enol.

I think CH3 (methyl) is a functional group too.

Alkenes have characteristic properties.They have a general formula CnH2n.

Common functional groups.

-> R-COOH = acidic group

->R- OH = alcohol group

->R - COO - R'  = Ester group

->R - CHo = Aldehyde group

          O
         ||
-> R - C - R' - Ketone group

These are the groups which I'm aware of, apparently.

The functional groups are methyl, alcohol and alkene groups.

3-methyl-hex-2-enol is an alkene consisting of two OH groups of atoms. The fact that it is an enol makes it an alkene.

Otherwise it would have been simply said to be 3-methyl-hex-2-anol

Just like for hexene and hexane.
Hexene is an alkene while hexane is an alkane. For this compound, it contains two OH groups each from the 1 carbon forming the carbon-carbon double bond.
