a) Identify redox reactions by the colour changes involved when using acidified potassium manganate(VII), and potassium iodide.

b) Describe the characteristic properties of bases as reactions with ammonium salts.

c) Classify oxides as neutral or amphoteric (Maybe a list of each please?)

d) uses of water in the industry

e) Describe the displacement of ammonia from its salts.

f) Describe the bonding in alkanes.

a) Identify redox reactions by the colour changes involved when using acidified potassium manganate(VII), and potassium iodide.

Purple to colourless and colourless to brown.

b) Describe the characteristic properties of bases as reactions with ammonium salts.

Alkali + Ammonium salt -> Ammonia + Salt + Water

Sodium Hydroxide + Ammonium Sulphate -> Ammonia + Sodium sulphate + Water

c) Classify oxides as neutral or amphoteric (Maybe a list of each please?)

Neutral - Nitrogen (II) Oxide, Carbon monoxide, Water

Amphoteric - Zinc oxide, Zinc hydroxide, Aluminium oxide and Aluminium hydroxide.

Reacting with Sodium hydroxide will give Sodium zincate and alumnate (extraction of Aluminium from bauxite) respectively

d) uses of water in the industry

Cooling tower

e) Describe the displacement of ammonia from its salts.

refer to b)

f) Describe the bonding in alkanes.

Single bond between carbon atoms and hydrogen atoms. It is saturated.
