the skull is supposed to be Death, and the eye a lost soul
it can be read in many different ways though, which is part of its beauty
MY way of reading it is no matter how lost a soul is, no matter how dead, in a sense, a soul is, the soul is still alive, and the eyes are still blinking. It goes through many things, burns even more (this is one of a series actually, eventually some blood would start swimming around the pupils), but the best is always yet to come. Eventually the soul finds its mate, the blood fades away, and the lens are shaped back into their normal shape.
