How important are recommendations when applying to universities?

If they have to deide between two students it makes  the difference, but I know some universities turn a blind eye to grades on the basis of good references in some circumstances. Good unis too like Oxford and Cambridge. Jack Cunningham, a thrid class graduate, was accepted to study for a doctorate on this basis. Anyone who reads the life of Galois will realise the sense behind it.

Well, I am a private candidate for the A level, the schools here are so bad, that people simply do not want to go to them.

can't you get your private tutors to write a reference?

or if you're in a club or something maybe the head of the club can write a reference?

look man, let me explain what exactly happens her.

The word 'ethics' does not EXIST.

Infact, now even tuition teachers are becoming corrupt, they usually are a part of a school. They will not teach a single thing at school, thus forcing you to come to the tuition place.

Even at the tuition place, the teacher will teach you very slowly, and will try to make it last 12 months for A level, so that you're stuck with him/her for the entire year.

What more, instead of fighting back, the good for nothing cowards that I call my class mates will not say anything. They will suffer, they work hard, but they are only thinking for themselves, and they never care about other people who cannot afford to go to these worthless tuitions.

So, I decided to study by myself, and with the help of Mr. Paul Smith, I was able to finish a lot of my work. Like in Kuwait the teachers have to have a minimum level called the PGCSE to teach, here you don't require a teaching certificate.

The reason the exam boards allow this is because, when a lot of these kids fail, partly because of the school and partly because they don't study, they re-do the exam and imagine all the money they they get, so if 50 re-sit, imagine the sheer sum of money that the board gets.

Even more, the teachers are very hard to take down, they have traps set for students that try to bring them down. Man, let me tell you, not only that. The entire country is corrupt. The leaders do whatever they like whenever they like, there are frequent killings even in universities.

What I hate even more is that, after coming from such a quiet country, here, everywhere there is noise. They make the librairy here a mess hall for pigs. The roads a full with cars, infact it will take to 2 hours to get to a place 5 km away here. For girls, that is often not an option here because the men here have become very disrespectful to the women of the country, and do a lot of nasty things to young girls.

But, Allah has, in my view protected me.

I have tried to break the viscious circle that controls the life my school, but I fail, because the student dont have ANY guts. I love my country, make no mistake of that, but in no way am I proud to be its citizen.
