Additional Maths Discussion (Overall impression)
« on: June 05, 2009, 05:59:30 pm »
How was it? :)

Everyone has probably done paper 2 already (including the people in america at this time :P)

Paper 1, i thought it was okay. Lost about 11/80 marks in total (relative velocity + last EITHER question)

Paper 2, easy peasy. Lost 3/80 marks so far for two log questions aha, stupid careless mistakes. But I couldn't find anymore mistakes. Very happy with this paper otherwise.

Hope that should be enough for an a*.

Also, grade boundaries? Gonna be high or low this year?

But overall I'm happy i survived add maths, and no more maths for at lease a few more months :), and next year gonna be much easier for us.

I found the papers extremely easy.. Cambridge is so kind to us! In total in both papers, I think I only lost about 5 marks... I'm really happy
Expectin an A* guarenteed. and if I dont get one then Im sure the boundaries will be something like A=+97 which is not possible!

By the way, just wondrring, qs 12E prt 2

is 2/(e-1) the same as -2/(1-e)?? it is rite?? i got the second answer but others got the first one...

other than that, in p2, i could get all correct (i finished it in 1hr15min).... in p1 the graph was annoying... never noe if im correct or wrong, got k=9000 somefin and n=-1.205 or somefin...

IGCSEzindabad- if u lost 18 marks in p1, im very sorry 2 say u may not get A*, and depending on grade boundary not even an A :( cuz this was a VERY easy paper compared to past papers, so it may have a high grade threshold - admath has had threshold of 71/80 for A before.

oh for the answer wher u had 2 find n and k, n=-1.2 according to calculation, but they def hav a range, i got -1.22 from my graph. but thers a HUGE range for k because even if n value is diff by 0.01 percent it will hav a HUGE effect on the k value, cuz its log remember? so they have ranges for that just make sure u took the right values from ur graph, drew a sensible straight line and showd wher u got ur values from..

on the whole i thot both the papers were extremely easy, ther were no major matrix questions, sets were easy and no permutations only the typical combination question

Saiki

you were asked to find the x-cordinate...

you cant actually have x....

i got

2/(e-1) or something like that

it sed find the x-coordinate in terms of x

Is the grade boundary really that high?

Assuming 72 for both

= 144/160 = 90%. So ironically it's even higher than the normal maths?

By the way i didn't get 2/(e-1)

But i got 1.16, which is 2/(e-1) aha, i think ill still get it right.

it said in terms of e... so maybe u might loose 1 mrk... n yes, the grade boundaries r high, since add maths is not for everyone, n this paper was easy...
