No. Its better than being confused and doing nothing at all. For example, if you are on a hike and need a rock to make your way up safely, and you have some big and small rocks. You should pick up the big ones if they help you. Not the small ones, cuz they are useless.  Plus, the big rock will help other people to make their way up too. So, its not selfish.

Sometimes (or should I say most of the times) its better to be selfish for your and other's ultimate betterment. Its a lesson I've learnt and now strictly follow.
