Chemistry Help HERE ONLY !!

hey guys,

as the chemsitry exam is on the 1st of june, u must all be revising, and u MUST have some questions,

so if u have any CHEMISTRY questions, post them here and hopefully some one will help.

i hav a question...if the question has an acid and a base given and they mention tht water IS the acid and they ask Y does water behaves like acid....wat is the answer and plz briefly explain

I think because acids are proton doners or hydrogen donor....and water has hydrogen :S:S im sorry i havent touched chem since p6 so f orgotten all of it

yeah i think thats rite .. bcoz it has H+ in its molecule .. so its a hydrogen donor just like an acid

it acts as an acid because it acts as a proton donor.

Hey! I have a question...

In the production of Aluminum, Sodium Hydroxide is used to separate Aluminum Oxide from the impurities in bauxite ore. The Main impurity in the ore is Iron(3) Oxide. Aluminum Oxide is an amphoteric oxide whilst Iron(3) Oxide us a basic oxide.
Suggest how these two oxides can be separated by the addition of aqueous Sodium Hydroxide.

I love Chemistry .. only subject im good at .. lol .. right Water acts as an acid.. because well yeah its a proton donor.. also remember the fact its sort of amphoteric.. it can both donate or accept.. at different cases ..

Yeah because you see.. Aluminum Oxide is Amphoteric..so with the addition of Sodium Hydroxide it would react with aluminium oxide.. leaving behind Iron Oxide.. therefore seperating em.. hmmm hope it helped ..

p.s and yes as iron oxide is basic it would definitely not react with NAOH ..

water if u see it in the product side it will loose one hydrogen. therefore acids tend to loose protons(h+) ions and give it to bases. so u see water behaves like acid as it GIVES or DONATES  protons
