Any idea about Raw & UMS marks?
« on: March 07, 2013, 06:12:38 pm »
I wanted to know something regarding UMS and raw marks. I know that after the raw marks is converted into UMS marks, it can increase or remain the same. But can the marks even decrease from the original raw marks??

For example, a January 13 GCE A Level Biology Unit 1 candidate got 59/80 i.e. 73.75% raw marks, how can the marks get down to 81/120 i.e. 67.50% UMS marks?

The marks that I mentioned above is for the same exam series, the same question paper and also for the same year i.e. GCE A Level January 2013 Biology Unit 1, therefore there's no comparisons required.

I've come to know about that Raw mark from the Edexcel's Marks converter. My main query is, if that candidate got 59/80 as a raw mark (73.75%), then how can his UMS mark get lower i.e. 81/120 (67.50%), I'm just showing the percentages to know that the raw marks obtained by a candidate can be lowered through UMS marks or not.

Does anyone have any slightest idea about this?
Thanks.

120 ums is not actually 80/80, could be about 70-75
