Insight of an Intern
« on: August 05, 2012, 03:17:15 pm »
[I made sure to get admin approval before posting this - thanks guys!]

Hey there SF peeps,

I am a University of Bath Politics with International Relations 3rd year student, and as part of my placement year with tech company 10gen I am keeping a blog called 'Insight of an Intern'.

The blog is a frank account of life as an intern in London, and offers potential interns of all walks of life advice on the internship process and what to expect. I thought I'd post it here as it might be of use to anyone taking an internship, or thinking about doing so in the future.

You can check it out at www.insightofanintern.com

Hope it helps in some way, and I look forward to getting to know you guys on here.

Cheers m'dears!

My personal advice is don't do it unless you are rich.

Well, unpaid internships, certainly. But I'm completely against those, and see them as a form of basically illegal labour.

There are good, paid internships out there, however - the one which I'm doing pays me a reasonable salary (otherwise I certainly wouldn't have enough money!).  ;)

Internships in UK and US are a method of weeding out the scum of the eart - people without money or connections - so the people in power perpetuate the system.
