« on: September 17, 2010, 05:21:02 pm »
okay so i wanna do physics at uni and ive been looking at the courses and theres BSc and MSc, obviously bachelors and masters. which do i apply to? i got all A's at AS so its not like im stupid so id like to get a masters degree, but how does it work? do i do the BSc and then after that do the MSc - in which case i apply for the BSc, or do i just apply for the MSc? also do you think theres less competition for the BSc because everyone wants to do a masters? or vice versa, because people think they only want to do the BSc because the masters is for genius'?

HELP!
thanks :)

First of all, you'd probably need to finish your A-Levels before you think of applying to most of these universities. It depends on which university you're applying, but most universities demand a minimum of two full A-Levels and two AS-Levels, or in general three A-Levels.

Also, you cannot get into MSc without a Bachelors degree. I guess there might be diploma programs which would qualify you for Masters, but I am almost definitely certain that there's a small chance of that, too. You will absolutely need a Bachelors degree i.e. BSc degree before going into MSc. It is possible that some Canadian or American universities will give you extra credit for your A-Levels and you might finish your Bachelors program in less than the usual four years (where it is almost always three years in UK, though some Undergraduate/Bachelors' courses are longer).

Bottom-line: unless you're the son or daughter of a corrupted politician you can never get in a Masters/Graduate program without a Bachelors degree.

If you have any more queries, feel free to ask. :) Best wishes!

You must have a BSc before applying for a Masters degree.

Well, it depends on the course you would like to take. For some courses like medicine there are date limits for applications for most universities. However for the rest, you need to have your results to apply.

Am sure with your good results you are bound to be accepted by the best universities.

Yes a bachelor's degree is needed before taking any masters. Try to inquire to universities you're interested in so you will be advised.
