We just opened another site, studentshop.biz, its for selling educational materials, our idea is that students will run it and earn profits from it, but they need to do it right, we expect the store to be functioning fully by about 6 months, now we are looking for people who might want to join us at the store to update it, manage it etc...
We need a group of students (about 15 students right now) who thinks that they can work together in order to manage the site, manage sales etc...
the team will have to have a leader (maybe two), and the leader will decide on the positions of different students. the students will have to cooperate in this thing in order the manage the shop.
i (ExamPapersGeek) will be able to offer help in technical details of the site,
Astarmathsandphysics will offer help mainly in the business side, which i am also helpin in to a small extent.
so basically now if you are interested in joinin the team of students post us a note here, saying what you want to do, about you and as many things as possible.
The reward for joinin this is that you will get part of the profit that is made by the shop!

i would work on the marketing of the site (advertisments etc.)
im 15 years old (turning 16 next january), i live in kuwait, i like reading and surfing the internet, i have my own blog, i like photography, and cars, i take IGCSE business studies (got an A in the mocks), i also take IGCSE computer studies (got a B in the mocks)
i would love to be part of this experience :)

we aren't sure what we are going to sell, thats for students to decide, We want students to do everything.
If you succeed you can carry on with the online business or you can simply quit, we give you an award every year if you do good. An official certificate saying the years of experience, and what the award have been for.

you'll need to make some cool designs-there are plenty of cheap t-shirt making shops that are quite cheap so you're sure to make profit hehe :)

i can buy past papers form my bookshop for lets just 70sar(about 20 $)for chem P3 ,P1 and P6
i wouldnt pay 25/30 to the site so that i can get em...and that two after a day or even a week.

Hey..well, I'll be turning 18 in august....does that count??? ::)
Oh and we'll be moving to Canada in july (toronto)...so im not really sure abt the laws and stuff over there :-\
but i am willing to help...
since I'll be leaving the country (kuwait)...i can't really help in making (or buying) the products.... but i do know many places in kuwait that charge very little for printing (since u guys were talking abt t-shirts, mugs, and all that)...and maybe Q80boy (since he lives in kuwait as well) could order from the shops =)
Also, i would just like to comment on the "selling pastpapers in CD" idea..... teachers in our school sell CD's with pastpapaers for each subject for 1KD (around 2british pounds)....if you want the markschemes as well...then its 2KD (4pounds) blah blah....anyways, my point is that...you won't believe the amount of orders they get ! sooo many students buy those CD's....(and it amazes me because i thot alot of ppl knew abt freeexamspapers and didn't hv to buy cds)...well apparently..there are still students in this world who hv no idea about the website!!! so they WILL buy the pastpapers!
I have many notes for sum subjects which i can provide for you people to sell. They are very very useful because many of my friends hv asked for them. However, it is on paper so will take some time to type it :)

I am going to move the shop to a new server which will mean you can sell cds of the past papers. I will do this by the start of term then things will be ready to go.

you dont just have to sell past paper related things. student material. textbooks at wholesale prices (i dont see how we would get them at wholesale prices, but oh well).
but student material. like powerpoints and courses and a CD which will teach you the whole biology IGCSE course without needing anything else. that is, of course, long term.
so, could i be a part? those ideas above are because when i went to see what the site is now... xD xD scary... selling hardware? and books? whaaat?
anyways. there could be a section where what you sell isnt necessarily delivered-eg, sell ebooks on different courses...

The thing is transferred. When we get the ftp details and update everything, which for me means keywords, a theme, a logo etc, you will be beyond copyright crap. You can all sell anything you want.

Then I found after MUCH investigation that the new hosting package did not support msql and php so had to upgrade. In addition to which we have to buy an SSL certificate to process credit cards. Finally I hope, the shop will be ready tonight.

Example:5GB of IGCSE papers
$7 a cd
$50 for for all the igcse papers on fep
$5 for the cds and postage which leaves $45 per set for the student to spend on popcorn

why will the student order from us when he can drive to the nearest bookshop and get them instantly ..? thus we need something different .. any suggestions?

I would be surprised if the all the papers on fep were in bookshops. And there will always be the latest ones on fep.

Teachers in my school also get the latest papers...they have their user id and passwords from CIE...They print hard copies and we xerox them....the printing is still going on though
It works out to be cheaper....like about 4000 rupees(US$82 approx )(for all subjects' paper(hard copy)

Obviously people will only pay for the papers they want.
People want things in all sorts of ways and some will want them on cd. The can have GB of papers without knowing anything about torrents. It is one more way to get the papers to the students. And this way students themselves can make some money

It cost me £100 to set the shop up, but not it is ready to go and up for the next year.
This includes an SSL certificate so you can accept credit cards. I will send out emails tonight.

u guys need to get a more snazzy logo. like with more 3d stuff. maybe ill give it a go. the thing that astar made looked like he was putting stars on the cambridge thingy. not super cool. paint should be more splodgy. maybe ill get my lil sister to scribble on it if i design one.

hmm yeah i know... but a logo makes a BIG difference. having a logo makes a huge difference, and the difference between a good logo and bad logo is a difference in sales. honestly, a good logo gives you good credibility. a lot of good credibility.
and when people design a logo, they design a high res one first, then publish a lower res one. know what i mean? for a high res cie logo, go here:

paint splodges arent as easy as they look... especially ones that look like they're dripping...

hmm... this is honestly very irritating... im not awesome at graphics... so... im not going to begin to show my inferior logo (which is worse than astar's)... but this was my idea:
a wooden sign, lopsided, which said "teh student shop: this way", and somehow also had an egged pic of the CIE logo on it. somehow... not necessartily egged, it could have paint splodges like ur doing a very bad job of painting over it.
so i attached these pictures of wood, and two paint splodges. the cie logo i already posted.
i didnt try to lower any of their resolutions or quality, because they look quite good and are a small size right now.

astar: using the cie logo is not a good thing. even tho the bad guys wont get u for it, ur destroying the credibility of the site. not just for yourself, but also for the students who will be helping you! imagine some1 saying "i worked to help astarmaths and physics make logos which had paint splodged on the cie thingy". y'know...
just my take. i wouldnt want a college/uni i was applying to to know tht i helped a criminal... meaning this whole thing would be a waste...
lol. i appreciate what u do... dont take it the wrong way... but when it comes to helping students... maybe you should try to act a bit legally... just a wee bit. because when u start making money off of cie things... then they'll really want you. especially if ur doing it online. with no license or even a request for approval.
and if the shop is a success, they already know where u live. heck, i know where u live.
