Hello to the few members that keep SF alive
We all know that the forum is going through its most dead phase and the activity has decresed over time but neverthless we want keep the forum alive and hence we want help/suggestions from our members.
We want you to simply state what YOU think is the reason for the decreased acitivty.
Beside reasons, we would also like you to suggest on how we can improve? Is there anything that you think should be changed?
Please tell us your opinions and we will try our best to bring back life in SF.

1. First of all, the ads are really annoying. I am using Opera adblock so they are not a problem for me now. But I opened SF in firefox only to find 4 Ad banners and some text encoded as Ads. But thank God it was changed from clicksor to Adbrite, Clicksor infected my computer with a nasty virus which I had to remove with much toil. But overall, I would suggest the ads to be discreet, like they were in google ads.
2. I just cannot believe more than 100 guests browse the forum with none of them registering. Also the no of members shows 20000+ with so less active members? I am inclined to believe most of them are bots or advertisers. The forum's captcha system will have to be upgraded. They are eating up useful bandwidth and it is due to them that we find the forum too slow.
3. Finally, the forum's appearance. The current appearance is 4 years old, going on from 2008. I would suggest an upgrade to vBulletin or XenForo interface, both of them very attractive esp. the latter.

How mean!!! What's your prob?
We find resources in this forum for free that we cannot find anywhere else. When I needed the AS Physics and AS Chemistry Revision Guides, someone here having it scanned and uploaded it. Whether I need the latest past papers (for example, January 2012), any textbooks, revsion guides, teacher's guides, medical books or I have any technical problems, someone will be here to help.
Moreover, Sir Paul helps a lot in physics and maths. He must be busy. We can't expect him to be here 24/7. He must be having other things to do, like teaching, for example. He also makes videos to explain answers to SF posters' complicated questions. And he provides all this for free. May ALLAH bless him.
This forum isn't dead. It is just that people get busier day by day and they have less time to post here. I really feel like sharing my notes and help everyone around here, but I am simply too busy. But however busy I am, I will surely have a look in here once a week. Can't wait for exams to get over!! This forum is very much alive during the holidays and Ramadhan as well.
As for the suggestions to improve this forum, I strongly suggest to have a discussion thread for any upcoming exams here so that we can discuss for a particular exam in a specific thread. Take example of the 'Edexcel Unit 5 Biology Article Discussion Thread'. The summer exams are coming so we can consider my idea, can't we? With helpful discussions everyone will benefit and people will not hesitate to come to SF because they will benefit for sure. What say?

Everyone is free to tell whatever he thinks about the forum, and how we can improve.
As for you suggestion Mkh, we always make these threads, and we follow the 24hrs rule.

Well from my point of view , I think that the people who was keeping this forum alive are busy this year , probably because they're seniors and doing A-levels or attending University requires overcoming many tremendous challenges ..... :-\
For improvements , I strongly believe that renovating the forum appearance will attract many people to explore it more , although , they may be focusing on studying now :-[ . Moreover , punctual topic organizing may be needed , accompanied by deleting or filtering the very old threads which ,presumably of no use now .
Note * if i have any others which pop in my mind i will definitely post soon *
* I recently glimpsed a completely change in one of the forums around and honestly , I loved its new layout so can I mention its name or not ?? just to have a look on the change they made as I think we don't need to copy it but we can just pick up what revive and introduce best ideas for our own forum is that okay :-[ :-[ ::) ::) *

We accept any form of criticism :)
But at least propose something that we can do to revert this idea of yours!
Moreover this is a free forum and everyone works here on their own will, not for any wage or anything!

1. Try to make the Pastpapers and Revision notes board(under the A level board) Invisible to Guests or at least so that they can't reach it unless they're members. if the Whole board is invisible ,It's a little too harsh , but that's just my Opinion :) ... Ohh and the Debates as well (It seems some companies actually Quoted some of our talks in the debate section in a Book they were going to publish :o ...I guess that's enough detail :P )
Because if I was a Guest I wouln't have to make an actual Account to get the past papers or anything of that sort, Most probably of course.
2. Abod and MU , are one of the funniest people I met here [maybe it's cuz they're just too good at teasing/being sarcastic :P ] , They could share some seriously hard puzzles which can be as lame as possible even. EXample: Why is there a RED dot in the sky ? [took me ages to answer and didn't get it RIGHT in the end :P] .... Because there is a Fly with red lipstick on her lips! xP

3. Regarding the Bots problem that SE mentioned, I suggest you put a sort of Code that needs to be typed down by us everytime we login that way you can be sure who is a bot and delete their accounts. BUT at the same time in the registration procedure ,you should put a step where new members have to type down a (seen code). I really hope you do this one though :)
4. We advertise the FORUM (cuz FEP is well-known already!)... Perhaps advertise it on Google or even Facebook ? if that's too much to do then why not advertise it simply randomly on other sites like Youtube or Facebook or Twitter etc.
5. Try to revive the OLD Sweet threads ;)

I was going to suggest something similar. We shouldn't hide the boards, but the way we post resources as you said shouldn't be accessed except if you are a member. This is what actually attracted me to the forum; some IGCSE ICT materials that were attached to a thread and I couldn't access. And then the useful discussions we used to do regarding subjects.
There are many forums that has this feature "were links can't be accessed except for members". Because most of our resources are as links (mediafire, etc) which any guest can access.
I must add also that there must be specific reasons that made the unusual decline in the activity of the forum. As someone said above, this time of the year used to be busiest. I guess active members who were there during the previous period should try and look back on what might be the reasons that made the forum suddenly like this.

5.Every once in a while , the mediafire links that saadmannan and the others upload are Corrupted so why don't you use safelinking.net to protect them ? ..Engraved once mentioned it but it seems no one noticed.

When you click it , you have to type down a SEEN CODE , and the file is actually uploaded on Mediafire !

Pretty lame idea. These guests don't want to join because they see no real content on this forum.... So you're going to respond to that by limiting what guests can see, forcing them to sign up and giving this forum an artificial increases in new members.
They'll realise sooner or later that there's no content and will leave.
And you'll be back to square one :D

It's indeed our job to improve the forum in any way we can ;)
But we as a family here always like to ask the opinions of our dearest members who have much more innovative ideas given they are in larger numbers :)
So if you truly are just a humble user, then you would have suggested something by now ;)
We've located a lot of areas for improvement but that's to be discussed between staff members only and NOT with the 'humble' users!

Create more threads in the IELTS section to help with the IELTS prep. I am most probably going to be posting some helpful tipe for IELTS but only once I get done with my exams, INSHA ALLAH. Maybe I will also be able to scan and upload my IELTS prep. book and post helpful links as well. But for the time being, good luck improving SF. I hope people find the individual examination discussion threads helpful. Can I create one for the June 2012 Physics unit 4 exam? I think more people need it.

Yes what you said is 100% true. Exampapersgeek (our programmer) is like non-existent. It also seems Mr Paul is busy nowadays. LOL, me got no time either. :P
