A simple electronic calculator is allowed in the exam.
The following should be taken into consideration about the calculator:
* The calculator must be of a size suitable for use on the desk
* The calculator must be silent , with a small visual display only
* Calculator cases , instruction leaflets or formulae printed on the lid or cover of the calculator must not be in the possession of the candidates
* External storage media i.e. card , tape , disk , smartcard or plug-in modules must not be in the possession of candidates during the examination
* Programmable calculators may be used but no prepared programs may be taken into the examination room.
Calculators with any of the following facilities are prohibited:
* Graphic display
* Data banks
* Dictionaries
* Language translators
* QWERTY keyboards
* Manipulation of text or formulae
* Symbolic differentiation or integration
* Capability of remote communication with other machines
Thank you.

check if ur calculator is allowed or not :D
maybe i couldnt get a range of models (cuz there will be many according to whats allowed and wt isnt)
but i guess everyone can check if his/her calc is suitable for the xam :)
p.s: thank you all for ur patience, and for trusting me ;)
-
Thanks a lot dude!!! ;D
-
ur welcome :D
-
The casio 991 ES does not symbolically differentiate or integrate. The sticking point will be manipulation of formulae. We need to check on this specific point.
-
i got those rules straight ahead from the british council....
-
Thanks sanity_master
I guess u know now which calculator u would use out of the 5 u have loool
-
yea i did.......either way i was going to use the fx-92MS....to be on the safe side and i love that calc :D
just hope everyone else nw knows which one to use ;D
-
astarmathsandphysics....wt do u think about those points up there...especially the one u pointed out?
-
what does graphic display mean ?? And another question, what if my calculator stops working in the middle of the exam ?? do i get a replacment ? or do i simple fail the subject ?
-
about graphic display:: there is that kind of calculators where u just enter the equation u got for a graph...and it simply shows u how the graph will look like....with the coordinates and all......i friend of mine was disqualified before from a math exam cuz he used one of those :o
i guess he got over it by now :D
when my calculator usually stops in an exam i keep hitting it till it work again...but i dont know if we can replace it

Thanks, well i hope my calculator doesnt stop :)
-
ur welcome....lets all hope so :D
-
can we take more than one calculator
all of them have different functions
lola
-
i have casio fx-350es i think it is allowed!
-
OK PPL
ow my caps lock was on
what is the general difference between all
casio fx ... MS and
casio fx ... ES
i mean wat is the difference between that es and ms
-
ppl....we better stop thinking if our clacs are allowed or not....just check wts mentioned up there and see if its ok with ur calc :D lol
we only got 9 dayzzzz
i guess im gonna take 2 calc...if i can enter with both of them then i will have SUPER SONIC SPEED in calculating....if not, i will throw 1 of them away :D
-
plz gimme link for fx-92 ms
did not find anything while googling for fx 92 ms
-
http://www.calctech.org/calculatrices_scolaires/gamme_scientifique/FX_92college2D.php
guess thats wt u need
-
although its french....but try to figure out wts meant there :D
-
i've done some research but im not sure of the results.....on MS and ES
MS are the calculators that are developed from the ordinary calculators (the not scientific ones) so i guess MS= Modern Scientific
the ES are the newly made calculators, so i guess ES = Electronic scientific
P.S:: those conclusions are mine, so if they r wrong blame no one but me (LOL)
-
anyone who has done his studies and can donate his time, plz do this
write down the models which are allowed (there might be around 10) and just paste a link to them
that will be kool
thanx for the conclusion
i have never used ES, and i personally prefer MS, because i have been using that from quite a long time (from around 3 to 4 years)
i have to betray my 991 MS :'( :'( :'(
-
i've been using ES and MS since the first minute i bought my first scientific calculator (about 5-6 years from nw) :D
y dont u just compare the calc u got with the prohibited rules up there.....if any of the stated ones is in ur calc then u cnat use it....if its clean.....then no need to betray it :D
-
The best calculator for IGCSE Exams is the Casio FX-82 it has everything you need for IGCSE and for sure examiners will not have problems with it . :)
-
So after all these conversations . Is fx-350ES allowed? My teacher said yes but just want to check. And Im trying to reach my british council to get any additional information about that
-
Theres also a Casio calculator, cant remember the name, the one that has the little solar panels on the top right side, can be used to calculate formulas that inclued X in them like similtanious equations. they help alooot but im not sure if they are allowed in the exam even though i think they are, and will prob be used here. my math teacher didnt really say anything bout it even though he is very fair and quite strict.
-
casio webssite is also not so user frieddly
:@
not all calculators are stated properly
-
plz gimme link for fx-92 ms
did not find anything while googling for fx 92 ms
heyy ... i have no idea abt fx 92 ms but i used fx 95 ms & no 1 told me anything soo i think u r allowed to use it :D
-
Breakin news....
my friends say that their older brothers entered the exam with the fx-991ES.......and nothing HAPPENED!!
so i think anything like this one is OK....i wonder how its ok though, cuz this calculator can do matrices, simultaneous equations and other few things that i dont know yet...but COOL!!
so i guess that ur calculator sweetsh (fx-350ES) is allowed cuz its like the fx-991ES
-
one more thing...
i've been told that i should take 2 calculators with me....so if anyone of them crashed i use the other!
-
Hahahahahahahahahahaha I like your investigation =D
In addition to what you said now, yes take 2 calculators with you or another battery for the same calculator because they wont help you if you faced any problem
-
is the Casio FX-82ES allowed?
Thank you.
-
i think yea it is allowed.....i noticed that anything below 100MS or ES is ok...cuz they have no extra options as doing equations or graphs and so........so i guess any thing below
100!! is ok....
astarmathsandphysics....u didnt answer my Q....wt do u think about the whole prohibited stuff and about the types of calculators ppl were posting earlier....r they ok?? from ur experience i guess u almost know wts ok and wts not
-
350>100 ?! ?!
Mine doesnt have these things. Guys its good purchase it!
Casio fx-350ES

-
i was just trying to make some kinda summary :D lol
but it looks like it didnt work....lol
im not gonna buy a new one...im gonna take 3 calculators with me...and if i can get in with the 3 (COOL) if i cant then i will choose the best of them>>>>>>sure if they are all allowed :D lol
P.S: glad to hear that u liked my investigation (lol) :D
-
i haven't changed my calculator battery since i bought it ,, and i have the feeling that it will stop working there .. i use casio fx-570ES
mmm i think i should change the batteries just in case though its working fine now ..
i asked some students .. who already gave the exam before they said its allowed .
-
take 2 calculators just in case :)
-
thank u :D my calculator is allowed .. ill take 2 calculators just incase ...
-
ur welcome!
atlast someone over here is sure that his/her calculator is allowed! :D
-
hey ppl my calc is fx-991MS
is it allowed
in which papers r we allowed to take calc
-
all examz ... duhh
-
i thnk its allowed....cuz apparently it is closely related to fx-991ES that i mentioned above! (:D)
and !!AGAIN!!
take more than 1 calculator with u to be on the safe side
-
hmm ok well i have a question
wen we enter to do our exam they will check EVERY calculator .. ??
it really shouldnt matter which calculator u take cause i dont think they will check everyone ....
my school have around 300 students i dont think they will check every students calculator ... thats just stupid if they do
-
im sure u dont wanna take the risk of getting DQ.....do u? ;D
-
LSN
GOOD NEWS

CHECK THIS OUT!!!
now here
i am such a noob and i dont know anything
just tell me which ones are allowed from this list
-
i dont think anyone read this
guys read my post above
i found link, which shows most of the casio calcaulators and their functions
just check out the link
-
Whats wrong with your language today?
-
ppl are just nervous and stress in in the air........pardon him for his language
the guy is just a bit mad :D
-
i guess the problem will be with the property of:
• Integration/differential calculations
which is in the fx-100MS/115MS
the rest i guess are ordinary ones with no issues
-
whats to be mad about ?? chill dude
i guess ppl dnt get much time ..
as for me the link doesn't work at all ???
-
wtf
means what the feather, in my language
looool
haha
link doesnt work
:S:S
try it agagain
works well for me
-
which is best one that is allowed?
is it fx 95 MS?
-
how bout fx-570 MS?
most of my friends use this type of calculator..so,it wont cause any problem right?
-
use fx-991ES..
-
well i got the fx-350MS/fx-95MS/fx-570MS........
i got the above 3 and i guess the fx-570MS in the best among them......i got newer calculator (better as well) as fx-991ES
this calculator thing is getting on ma last nerve....WE CANT DECIDE!!! >:(
-
use fx-991ES..
I think this is not allowed
-
use fx-991ES..
I think this is not allowed
i said before that many friends of mine used it and everything was fine.........awkward i know but it happened
-
I dont know, actually Im not sure alot. I saw its appearance and I think I once heard my teacher says its forbidden to use this one. I wanted to contact the british council here today to get additional information but im so sick I couldnt call. I'll see tomorrow
-
oh i used it for my boards..
ES-991 is not a graphical caluclator... it is allowed ...
no worries
-
let me do that on ur behalf.....get some rest :)
-
well i got the fx-350MS/fx-95MS/fx-570MS........
i got the above 3 and i guess the fx-570MS in the best among them......i got newer calculator (better as well) as fx-991ES
this calculator thing is getting on ma last nerve....WE CANT DECIDE!!! >:(
yeah..even my teacher said its good to use fx-570MS.why dont theyj ust give us a list of calc. which is allowed in the exam?its much better so we don't need to think and bother about calculator and we can concntrte more on preparing the exam itself. o.0
-
i asked them by e-mail if the fx-991ES is allowed of not.......tried to be very specific to get a fast reply (yes or no)
knw wt i mean.....i inshallah by tomorrow i will get the final answer....and if it is allowed......i will take it (FTW)
-
well lol :P i know for a fact it is allwoed..
-
is fx-570ES ok ?
-
yes thts ok too
-
Master fx-350ES ? Got any idea?
-
forgot to quote (lol)>>to master786
WHERE HAVE U BEEN LONG TIME AGO!!!?? lol
so instead of u answering every question.......y dont u just post the list of the allowed calculators (or atleast wt u know)
-
is the terminator FX 991 MS allowed?
-
yes FX991 isallwoed... they are normal calculators..they are allowed
-
wt do they mean with.....symbol/formula manipulation>>cuz it is prohibited to use a calculator with that property...
-
kool
ru serious
just have a look at it again
http://edu.casio.com/products/standard/fx991ms/
if this classic hotrod is allowed then it is going to rock
i do matrices
algebra
simulataneous
quadratic
and other stuff on this.
....
-
thats y i doubt that it is allowed.......i can solve the whole exam with it blindfolded lol
-
yes u can do them ... but on the paper u need to show workings :P
so u can just check ur answers on the calculators .. np
-
oo igcse papers are not tht easy even:P
guys u ppl are getting too over confident :P the calculators is not tht great a help in the examination hall at times... beleive me on tht
-
They ask you to show your working you will get no marks for having only the final answers
-
yes sweetsh tht abt right :D
-
about?
-
about shoign the working bit
-
Ofcourse we should show our working. Ofcourse for the questions which are for 1 mark no. But most of them you need to. Especially in Math Paper 4
-
yes thts right
-
so,it doesnt really a matter which type of calculator that we use right?the most important thing,we need to show the working.
and yeah, i think fx-570MS is allowed.(i don't even know how to do mtrices and vect on that calc.)
-
No you have to pay attention not all calculators are used. Thats why this topic was established
-
okay.i got it.but this this is still confusing.can u tell us which type of calc. are allowed?
-
YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
BREAKING NEWS!!!!
the FX-991ES is ALLOWED
anything like it or with less options (properties) is allowed!

breaking news ?
from a day or two i've been establishing the point tht 991-ES is allowed :P

Is it allowed?
-
hmm yes it is astar :P
-
i got those news from the british council.....and anything i get from there is a breakin news :P
YES IT IS! :D
unbelievable huh? lol
-
Personally I thought it would be because it is allowed for gcse.
-
can u plz inquire abuot MS sanity_master
u asked for 991 ES, can u also ask for 991 MS?
-
i think this one is allowed too......cuz the difference between it and the ES is the look...
and sry, i cant ask them anymore than i asked them for alot of times and i guess they r gonna punch me in the face if i asked them one more time :D.....take with u the 991 and take an older model to be on the safe side ;)
-
they know u now
print ur profile pic, attach to ur face
tell them ur sanity_master and then ask them.
:D
-
they know me long time ago....im askin them about stuff since the beginning of this year...and i've met them actually :D (the administrator of the council) :D lol
i will ask again for ya :)
-

they wont kill u if u get the rong Calculator... if u hav the wrong one..they iwll supply u with the right one..
Relax
-
No they wont!
-
yeah rite!!!
or atleast i don't think so our school will.....
if 300 students get rong cals i don't think so theyll b able to.....ne centre!!!
-
ok 300 idiots in one place.... not possible
-
everything's possible!!!!dat to our skooll....u neva kno :D
newyas d idea dat theyll provide us with a cal is just floppp!!!!
cz dey wont.... ::)
-
welll then jsut follow this...FX 991,FX 100,FX 115 .... if u hav these take them with u

100 ms is alright and accepted .. i've been using it in the xamz since JUNE 2007
-
yelp!!
plz can someone post an youtube video or a video, which shows all types of calculations possible in 991ms
-
what i mean by all, are the ones which are important to us students
eg
finding median
mean
algebra [[quadratic]] [[simultaneous]] i know this
and anything else....
-
dont u think its a bit late to ask for such thing! :P
-
nop
exams is on 18th i think
soo much time left
it will only take 5 mins to learn, if someone teaches.
ofcourse it will take time if u try on ur own
-
18th is paper 4......paper 2 is nxt Wednesday!!! >>> 13th
-
ok
im looking out for youtube videos that exppains about the usefull functions of this calculator.
cant find one :(
im more specifically looking out how to find mean, and median
-
I own the maths channel on youtube. I will try and make some videos on this
-
ok i am waiting for reply.
the one which i need is
finding median
and if we can do linear equations, it will be great also
-
i am still waiting for replies.
anyone knows how to do the things mentioned above.
-
how to make programs on programmable calculators? (fx 991 MS)
nothing there in manual
