Amazing thread

Bravo

Mothers are another species so i am not taking them into account.

Answer is simple, NO.

They think they are better but i have seem them close and personal and they make alot of mistakes and most of them go to sleep after a half a hour.
Whereas me..i could eat popcorns, see American pie on the screen and listen to eminem on the music system without any Mistake.

FLAWLESS VICTORY

All woman are a sort of a 'jack of all trades'. Alpha is a very good example. She is the grandmother of several websites. :P

But most women fail to excel in any trade, though. ::) As is the case with all people like this. Men can be too, ofc.

Better to concentrate on a few things.

hi5  :D

Hi kick. :P

I don't know any physiological differences that can make woman better at multitasking but the theory goes that men would go off to hunt and have to focus on the specific task at hand, while women would stay back and handle all the small things at once, like watching after young, preparing food etc. Therefore women are better multitaskers. I think there is some scientific backing that shows that women can do multiple things at the same time faster than men can. I guess the idea makes sense.

i would pretend i dont agree with Kheper at all.

All those things like watching after young are considered Household work and not multi tasking. Whereas men have to put up with demands of spouse, Work, Social life. ::)

If house chores are so 'easy' jobs, why don't men do it?   :P

Yup, even cooking is a multitask in itself. Your post makes sense too.

I agree. They are quite good at multitasking. Though I don't know if they are better than men at that.

The normal thought is that, women cook, look after the children and house at the same time.

But the husband puts up with office and an office may have many prospect of working on multiple projects and works. Some husbands still look after the kids and some have a hobby of cooking.

So, to rational, I would take a neutral standpoint rather than making a sweeping statement that all women are better THAN men at multitasking.

not all but many r !

they have to manage their office work , household , kids n social life all at the same time !   n men mostly only office work n social life ! so yea i guess women r damn good at multitasking !!

@exam :And doesn't 'office work' involve many duties (and hence multitasking) too? ::)
Title: Re: Are women really better at multi-tasking?
Post by: ***exam*** on August 02, 2010, 02:58:39 pm
obv office work is equal to multi tasking !  so both men n women do that !

hence comparatively (my prev post)  women multi task more in   day to day life than men do

The women in question in this case is a housewife. Not a working woman. ::)

Women who work usually keep babysitters and maids to cook for them. So, they do not multitask in home in this case, but multitask in office like men. So, both are equal and a woman is no better than a man at multitasking.

LOL, I know why. :P

The woman thinks when she speaks. The man does not. So, women are better at multitasking. :D :P :P

Men are more single minded. I start something and concentrate on it until it is finished.

I don't think there's any difference.

I met many boys who only do one thing at one time (not that they are unable to),
and my dad always emphasizes that concentration and attention is very important
so I think that's how men think: they should concentrate on one thing only.
I think this is not a problem of can or cannot, but should or should not
Men think they should not do multi-task at the same time so they appear to be weaker in this aspect.
That's how I think XD

I've read this news too.
But it seems that women are better in this research just because men are usually not good at one of the tasks in the experiment.

Also, some psychologists suggest that human brain has different components (well, sth like that, i forget the correct wordings)
so you can watch TV and listen to music at the same time (one uses eyes and another uses ears),
listen to music and do homework (one uses ears and another uses eyes)
because they are using different parts of your brain.
I think (ya, just think) that's the secret of multi-tasking and I think there will be no big difference between brains of men and women.

The statement may be able to be explained in this way:
Men (who usually go out to work) have fewer opportunities to do multi-tasks. While sitting in the office they only have to concentrate on their own work, unless they play games on the Net or sth. Women (who have a larger proportion than men to stay at home) are exposed to more opportunies multi-tasking. For example, they cook and chat on the phone at the same time (like my mum), sweep the floor and listen to music and watch TV and sing a song, meet a friend and chat with them and walk to the supermarket and check which one is the cheapest and count the correct number of banknotes etc.

OK I know that's quite a strange logic because more women are going out to work and men do not necessarily stay in office. But that's how I view this statement. Maybe this stereotype create this view.

In the end it is focus that makes breakthroughs and not balancing home, kids and shopping.

I feel the conventional roles of both men and women, and the mutual respect is better than what we have synthesized over the years, and made it an excuse calling it "modernism". In the west, where men and women have deviated the most is on the verge of social collapse.

Society har already collapsed on many council estates.

I mean there are more divorces than ever before.

There are more abortions, more orphans.

More people who have children without marriage.

We need to stop this, it feels like judgement day is coming and there is nothing we can do about it.

Yes, I meant that too.

I mean, we are technologically advancing at the price of social collapse?

Maybe. Maybe not. But that is quite acceptable I think. Tech has more importance.

But the points to be raised are pretty obvious for both sides. In the end, its a matter of perception.

Perception is subject to fact. Due to such rapid tech advancement, more and more societies have come to social collapse! :(

Tech is something. Misuse is another thing. The misuse of technology is to be blamed, not technology itself.

For example FB. Its meant for good. Businessmen can share important staffs with workers, colleagues can share important stuffs. But it can also be misused by sharing pornographic images, love letters or stuffs like that.

The blame should go to human who use it, not technology.
