It is one of football's crueler jokes to position two of the world's best center forwards in the same nation in an era when one forward has become the preferred way of playing.
Almost every country would kill for either Fernando Torres or David Villa; Spain's misfortune is to have both. :(
Because of the 4-1-3-2 formation it has ( 2 strikers contrary to 1 striker formation that most of the other countries have), it left spain's back rank much vulnerable, so much that spain's midfield had to be supported by the fullbacks,Ramos and Capdevilla and the crosses of Xavi and Fabregas were very much disrupted. Because of that Spain had to suffer the loss against USA last year.
The flip side of that was seen at the 2008 European Championship in which Spain, paradoxically, played its best football after Villa, the tournament's top scorer, had suffered an injury 34 minutes into the semifinals against Russia. In the group stage, Spain had enjoyed a 4-1 win over Russia, edged past Sweden and then, having qualified, kicked Greece's A**. :P
In that opening half-hour against Russia, Spain had been troubled by the attacking surges of the two fullbacks and had struggled to take control of midfield. Once Fabregas came on for Villa, though, Spain's shape changed from 4-1-3-2 to 4-1-4-1. Russia's fullbacks were pinned back by the width provided by Fabregas and Silva and, with Senna neutralizing the fullbacks , Spain took complete control, going on to win 3-0. The same formation was retained for the final and, although Spain beat Germany only 1-0, its superiority was evident.
But now due to Torres's injury, He might not be at his 100%.So, It may be easier for the manager to decide in changing into 1 striker formation. So Torres's injury might actually good for Spain. :)
So, this will shut up the guys who think that Torres's injury will lead to Spain's loss. What do u guys think about it? :)

spain all the way(and brazil just as a backup ;))
i dont get it y dont they just simply use the classic 4-4-2
this doesnt hv gaps and gives enough width for crosses as well
as 4 the 2 center mids they can be brought on as offensive or defensive mids depending on their situation
thus they can use torres and villa to their full potentials

spain will fall in the semis but if Xavi and iniesta are used in the best manner by vincent del bosque then things cn change. the best possible line up for spain should be this
