i can't differeniate between them at all can anybody help???? :'( :'(
thanks in advance :) :) :) :)
-
as their names indicate, the "dependent" variable(on the y-axis) depends on the "independent" variable(on the x-axis).
for example, the rate of a reaction DEPENDS on temperature.
so the rate is dependent and the temp. is independent, as temperature increase, rate of reaction increase (not the other way around)
it might be sometimes difficult to identify the variables in paper 5 (A2), but eventually u can know them.
as in OCT.NOV 2007 p.5.......Question 2,a (ii) :: the dependent would be the REACTION TIME and the independent would be the CONCENTRATION OF CAFFEINE.
hope u got the idea =)
-
Thank u very much u have helped me a lot thanks thanks 2 infinty ..so how is paper 5 going with u ???
+++++++rep
u r the best
thanks??
-
ur welcome =) if u have any other question, feel free to ask ;)
its somehow gd, i still have a bit of a problem with the statistical questions though, but not bad :D :)
wt subjects u taking this june?
-
Independant variable is the variable that you change in the experiment....
Dependant variable is the variable that changes because the Independant variable did
Example for the Beetroot experiment: For each time, we are changing the temperature to see the effect of temperature on the beetroot... so the independant variable here is the temperature
What changes when you change the temperature? The degree of redness of the testube does... so the dependant variable is the degree of redness

thanks @tammy :)

@stanity_master i am better at the statistical part than the other bt over all i horrible in the whole paper

am in jeddah too :) al-wadi international school what about u sweetest angel & sanity master ?
By the way where nd when exactly is ur exam? and how will u revise cuz i finished the past papers (from sp07) nd i dnt know what to do now ?
sweetest angel: did u see the ms ? if u ddnt here's the answer:
2 of:
1. ref. to adding sample to slide;
2. ref. to idea the sample is uniform;
3. ref. counting cells;
4. ref. to any detail of counting e.g. exclusions / number of squares;
2 of:
5. ref. to grid volume 0.2 mm × 0.2 mm × 0.1 mm = 0.004 mm3;
6. ref. to factor × 250 to estimate number of cells per mm3 / dividing by the
grid volume (0.004 mm3);
7. ref. to counting min.3 areas / slides and taking mean;
-
dependent= what u observe
independent= what u change
example--> The rate of photosnthesis is dir. prop. to co2 conc.
co2 conc = independent
rate ( time )= dependent
-
thank u very much :)

I only have some papers from school. There is those appendix though, I dont know a link for them but they just speak of experiment titles and stuff. Anyways revise for next exams while you got time, no point just sitting there. As for bio, Don't stress it, I think it'll be easy. After all its 30 marks!!
