Is accountant job boring ?
what can a person do with a degree in Economics?
Management, why not...?
-
Eco will open up more careers
-
What do you mean by management?
Can you specify the career in Economist. I did take Economics in as level but my lecturer said thaht i lack of analisys and application skills, so is it suitable for me to study economy in university?
-
I'm taking up Eco main... trying to move to management. Well, you can specialize in any field: tourism, trade, import/ export, any other industry. General Manager, Public Relations, etc.
If am not wrong, most unis look for Eco and Maths to let you pursue Management.
Try something you WANT to and CAN do. :)
If you lack analysis and application skills, then try to improve on that. You need them for anything.
-
Cleopatra, unis look for economics and math for management? I dont think so. At least not in the UK as far as I saw from their prospectus from career counselling dept.
And what do you mean by eco as the 'main'? Didnt you take business studies? Thats more relevant to management.
Pastyear, I would recommend economics if you have to choose one between two. Both are good. Accounting is good for CA.
Cheers!
-
Borakk, yes, I documented myself before I chose my subjects.
Nope, didn't take Business Studies, cause it has practically no 'importance' (NO OFFENCE) here for our A Levels. If ever we're going to pursue management, we'll start Business Studies as from zero.
Economics has more prospects. And it includes management as well.

Here means mauritius?
I am a bit surprised. Sorry if I was being rude.

It's okay.

What is CA?
If i want to study accounting ,where do i start first. Degree in university or ACCA
-
Chartered Accountant.
LOL, I think you should start at school. ;D
Where do you live? In countries like mine, ACCA is enough to get you a job.
-
Ya my country like that too but Chartered Accountant is CPA not the ACCA.
Start from school is that means have to study degree in Accounting then proceed to ACCA?
What is the difficulties in ACCA? I heard it was hard.
Since you (Alpha) you study economics before is it hard in the sence of this subject have a lot of new things need to learnt from years to years and need a lot of analysis and application skill?
-
Well, I don't think you need a degree in Accounting to do ACCA.
Start from school, am talking about SC and HSC. ;D ;)
Difficulties in ACCA? I heard from the others it was pretty easy... Well, everyone have their own views. I was advised to do ACCA first, then pursue management.
Economics, you know what? When I took this subject in Form 4, everybody was telling me: "It's the bulkiest syllabus that you're taking, Eco is so heavy, it's so dynamic, always changing, bla bla..."
Yet I took it, cause it was a subject I wanted to do. Yes, Eco needs A LOT of analysis and application skills. But there is absolutely no reason why you can't do it. Eco is 'common sense applied in business, political, and social issues'.
If you think you can do it, do it. But if you think you cannot take the risk, you still have many other subjects. Accounting is one of them. :)
-
This may be an embarrassing question but I really don't know the meaning or abbreviation of ACCA. Could you please clarify it?
And yes you are right. In O level I had a complete science background. I knew nothing about business studies or economics. But still in AS I made a dramatic decision to change completely to business and ICT background because that was what I wanted to do. Only my dad supported me! Everybody including my mom bombarded me with advices that I did good in o level and it was foolish to take such a risk now. I remained adamant over my decision. And my result was very good.
So pastyear, if you are in an indecision, just follow what your mind says and what you WANT to do. Do not take your decision based on what the 'current opportunity' seems to be.

I hate accounting tbh. Its just doing ezee math.
-
Oh, then its related to accounting.
Actually I dont like accounting too much myself. So I did not take it.
-
Easy math? :) But WITH LOGIC. Accounting is pretty easy at the start. Then starts getting tougher. As goes the saying "Never judge a book by its cover". The accounting books, lol.
It's good to do what YOU WANT to.
Many base their decisions on external factors.
Actually, am sending back the question to you: is accounting boring for YOU? ;)
Rhetorical question, I don't require an answer. You think, and take your decision. Soundly.
I know, it takes time... So what? Take the time!
-
It's good to do what YOU WANT to.
Exactly :)
-
No, accountant is not at all a boring job as one of my friends is into this field and seems quite satisfied. Career choice depends mainly upon your self-interest.
With a degree in economics you can also begin your career with government enterprises, public undertakings, investment firms, business journals and newspapers. The Indian Economics Services and Reserve Bank of India are also excellent options open to those who want to join government services. It opens up many careers and to know more you can see http://www.thedegreeexperts.com/dg-accounting-92.aspx
