Hey um I came across this math at the end of the may/june 2004 paper 4 (M1) question paper and well the way I solved it doesn't match with the mark scheme and I'm not really getting it. I'd really appreciate it if some one would help me out.
I've attached the question.
Thanks

A hunter, armed with a bow and arrow, takes direct aim at a monkey hanging from the branch of a tree. At the instant that the hunter releases the arrow, the monkey takes a avoiding action by releasing its hand of the branch. By setting up the relevant equations of the motion of the monkey and for the motion of the arrow, show that the monkey was mistaken in its stratergy.

astar no offence but...u got da worst handwriting ever :P
-
Sure
lemme think astar
thanks
And your answer doesn't seem to be matching with the mark scheme..bleh, the mark scheme's so weird
Thanks again, but could you please explain?
-
my mistake
a)sqrt(410) *2/9.8
use v^2-u"2+2as to find the speed at the height of the tower
then v=u+at to find time from top of tower to max height then doublr 9it cos it has to come down.
b) is right
c) is sqrt(410) /9.8-1.25

from where did u get this?

Cool, the first two are okay now thanks.
But the third one isn't matching

I cant see how it is wrong.
-
Ah I don't get it either
The mark scheme is weird.
