ok I did 5 igcse subjects
and am doing IELTS later do you know any university accept 5 igcse subjects if you dont know where can I know
Someone pmd me this question and I don't know the answer. Does anyone know?
-
Well the straight answer is, yes. How do I know?
Well my school only allows 5 IGCSE's, probably due to the fact that it mirrors what domestic students do in New Zealand (although having said that my school is not an international one nor am I an international student). Regardless, the point is we only do 5 subjects in 5th form so we only take 5 IGCSE's. I know that all schools that offer CIE in New Zealand, including AGS (my school :P) have a system where you take 6 or 7 subjects in the 4th form, drop a few (usually compulsory subjects like latin) and only study for 5 subjects in IGCSE.
So this is a pretty normal thing. Regarding university entrance (I will assume UK) last year 2 students from my school went to Cambridge (1 for economics and the other for English). Plus I think my friend's brother is going to Manchester in 2010. So the straight answer is yes, it is possible. However, at AGS, we also do 5 subjects at a-level (for A2 we do 4). Although not compulsory, most students take 4 A2's in their final year at school (although the guy who's doing eco at Cam did 3A2 and 1 new AS).
Thus, I think the point is, yes IGCSE is important but it seems a-levels take precedence, which they should in my opinion as IGCSE's are too easy.
Hope that helps! (sorry for the long, rather personal post)
*If anyone wanted to know, the two Cambridge guys were straight A students as well as being senior prefects (I think the eco guy was deputy head prefect - he was a bit of a legend)

-

I think civil engineering in uk is a 4 year degree, so the 1st yeat will be very basic. Wentworth will do what he wants to do but still better he do A levels.

I asked my dean today and although he's no expert on uk uni entrance, he had some kind of idea. Basically in past years, when guys from our school applied to uk unis, they couldn't really care much for IGCSE's, especially since most of us have 5 a-levels. The only exception seems to be medicine. So regarding your question of which specific unis accept 5 IGs, well it depends entirely on your situation (what marks you got, what degree you want to do, a-levels ....... etc).
But he did tell me that since people have gone to Oxbridge with only 5 IGCSE's, it seems highly unlikely any university would turn down an applicant solely because of IG's (except of course the already mentioned medicine category).
Nonetheless if you do insist, I managed to get a list of my school's uk entrances (everyone had only 5 IGCSE's) in 2008.
Cambridge (I mean the UK one if anyone is still unsure).
Oxford
Manchester
Imperial
If your interested, all universities in NZ accept 5 IGCSE's. In fact all you really need is a C in AS English to get into NZ unis, and maybe half a brain :)
And finally, if that isn't enough, here are the following US unis/colleges that have accepted 5 IG people from our school, again it is the 2008 list:
Columbia University
Cornell
Florida
Stanford ? (Not sure on this one, dean insisted one guy applied and got in but I never heard of him so meh..)
Hopefully that list is enough although I do remind you that everyone in our school does 5 alevels so maybe that's why unis have been a bit lax on IGCSE's to us.

Zainy thats double posting

From my understanding, IG's are not usually taken into consideration at all EXCEPT, IG Maths, which is the minimum requirement for Numeracy for entry into university (well for nz unis anyway..)
If they did consider IG marks, they would have put it in the entry requirements for specific courses, which I haven't seen done before.
:P :P :P
