Title: Maths doubt ~~
Post by: sameer210394 on October 27, 2009, 04:33:05 pm
A cylindrical glass has a radius of 4 cm and a height of 6 cm.
A large cylindrical jar full of water is a similar shape to the glass.
The glass can be filled with water from the jar exactly 216 times.
Work out the radius and height of the jar.

i got the answers as r = 24 &  h=36

but the mark scheme says the answer is r=14, h=42.

wat is the method to solve it correctly.

The volume of the har is 216 times the volume of the glass
so all the lengths on the hjar are cube root(216)=6 times the lengths on the glass
radius is 24 and height=36

x2-6x+10 is to be written in the form (x-p)2 +q
Find p and q

p= 3
q= 1
cuz,
x2 - 6x + 10
=> x2 - 6x + 9 - 9 +10
=> (x-3)2 - 9 +10
=> (x-3)2 + 1

The presentation of their work... 100% marks is not enough, you gotta be clear... precise... well-presented work... neatness... There are other criteria.

Here in MU last year, we had 10 with 100%... I don't know if there was even a topper. LOL
