Title: Work - energy formulas for M1
Post by: Lucifers Angel on October 20, 2009, 08:37:48 am
Can anyone mention some of the work-energy formulas used in M1 - CIE AS Level.
I know of some of them:

work done = change in kinetic energy + work done against resistance
loss in GPE - gain in kinetic energy = work done against resistance

But I've seen some work-energy formulas in the marking schemes that I'd never come across, such as:

total work done = gain in GPE + work done against resistance
gain in GPE = work done by driving force + loss in KE - work done against resistances
total work done = loss in GPE - gain in KE

Can anyone explain these to me, and please let me know about any further variations of these.

Thanks loads!

Too many formulae. Start thinking about principles.
All those folrmulae you mentioned are different versions of the principles of conservation of energy,
