Title: Chemistry doubt....
Post by: sameer210394 on October 12, 2009, 04:23:49 pm
th question says....

the reaction shown occurs naturally.

        C6H12O6     ==>      6CO2  +  6H2O
         P                           Q

which description of P and Q are correct?

P is a Hydrocarbon               Q is an Acidic Oxide

A             Yes                                      Yes
B             Yes                                       no
C              no                                       Yes
D              no                                        no

I just ticked the option C and the answer was right but i donno how, so ca anybody plz explain be how do u  call Q an acidic oxide???

Thanks in advance...

Well, hydrocarbons consist of only C and H atoms...so hence glucose is not hydrocarbon.....CO2 is acidic should be known :P....CO2 forms carbonic acid in soln...it's an acidic oxide...cummon dude

yeah..that was correct...

as nid said..CO2 forms carbonic acid

metal oxides forms an alkali when dissolved in water

and non-metal oxides form acid..
so..yaeh..C is a non-metal..so

the answer is C

@nid - he has taken combined science dude...not pure chem/phy/bio
