Title: IGCSE Mathematics.....
Post by: @d!_†oX!© on October 12, 2009, 10:51:59 am
Guys this is really important and really urgent.......Very recently my teacher told me that for our maths exams when we et a cumulative frequency curve to make, from now on we need to join all the points with straight ruled lines instead of a curve though all the points.....guys is that really true??????cuz till nnow we've been taught  to makea curve nd not straight line.......
any idea guys??????
wud be really gud if u cud ask ur teachers d same thing for a confirmation...cuz i fail to believe this news...... :-\
Thanx in advance!!!! ;D ;D

i'm pretty confused now after hearing to the "probably fake" news...

a cum. freq. curve would look horrendous with all the points joined with a ruler~!!!..lol..

ask ur teacher where did she read it....because that thing has to be official..

By the way..i guess theres no mention of it in any SYL.

I called them but the person who could answer my query was not available. I think he has piles or hemorrhoids - look them up. Anyway, I had to send them an email. Am awaiting their response.

This is the reply i got from cie

Dear Sir

Thank you for your email.
Cumulative frequency diagrams, if given in the question, are drawn as curves.
If candidates are asked to draw the cumulative frequency diagram, we will accept either the curve or the straight lines between points and our tolerance with answers accommodates both.

Please contact us if you require further assistance.

Yours sincerely

I doubt the exam will make us do a cumulative frequency diagram, however, they might give us one and tell us to look for the upper quartile, median, Lower quartile and interquartile range, they also might ask, for example, how many people spend over X time a week reading and you check.

Transformations does go in the Syllabus but in the paper 2 they didnt add it so my guess is that in the 04/11 math paper 4 exam they will make some questions about it. Its mainly rotation, reflection, shear, stretch, enlargment and translation.

Thats all i think
