hey ur givin stats 2moro rite? me too!
ok.....if 2 people live in the same house with no other people then that house must have 2 people in it. from the table the numbert of people living in a house with 2 people is 2*8=16. the total number of people is 110. the first person selected can be any one of the 16 people. but the second person selected can only be ONE- the person who lives with him. so p(same house with no others)=(16/110)*(1/109)=0.00133
anyways good luck for 2moro! ;)

and i am only giving stats (privately) in this session...i wanted to complete my 10 subjects... ;D

and what are u expecting in stats??

Paper was different from previous papers yar! It was definitely more difficult than the previous 2 years papers....
It's been 24 hours since the paper ( 2:30 yesterday ).. Shall we discuss?

Section A was weird but i think i got it all right except the Q about the postal questionnaires lol..... the q was what is it's advantage over interviewing personally right or just general?
I wrote it requires less resources( as you don't need interviewers )
and disadv that a reply from the persons is not necessary.....
Section B mai only the last Q was easy the rest were harder than usual.. examiner must hve been angry that day!!!!!:P
Ogive wale q mai... after getting value 66.. the median was the 44'th value off the graph right not the 33rd cause you had to eliminate the first 11 values??
Those 4 marks worth of comment questions were weird :/ .. why does the mean increase and precision one.. wht were the answers if anyone knows?
I'm just sad I messed up the part b of the probability q yar in sec B ... dno what happened

The ppr was very unexpected...soooo many comments we had to make...and seriously i think i'll lose 1 mark frm each comment as i know that the examiner will nt be looking fr the kind of answers i gave in the ppr...

and i am expecting 80-85 marks in this ppr...thats all i remember from the ppr..!!  :-\

and also now i'll try to get marks in 90's in ppr 2 if i'll have to confirm scoring an A grade...!!

Yeah the comment parts are usually the only parts that cause problems!! Numerical parts can still be usually done.Generally more marks are lost in papers two... moving averages, sampling, index numbers are all usually in sec B of this paper.Let's just hope comment questions are not there otherwise it will be fine!!!! Expectation is gonna come most probably... if it's a easy question 16/16 is expected from me at least.. like the 2007 or 2008 ones.
By the way, how do you draw the trend line through the moving averages? I usually draw it so that half the points are above the line and half below but many people do it differently..
Title: Re: O level Stats 4040
Post by: DrEvil on October 13, 2009, 11:52:47 am
yea u r rite...

lets just hope that no comments appear in paper 2...

when we have to draw the trend line, the line must pass through most of the points and remaining should be either above or below the trend line...thats how i was taught to draw to the trend line and most of the time my answers are correct by this method...  ;D

i knw........im gonna get no marks for comments as well........im gonna get a 0 in q2 :-[.......as well as some marks cut in maybe q4.........i didnt do q8 since it was too damn hard...q9 also had a tricky comment as well as q10........

i also got question 4's (iii) part wrong... it was damn confusing yaar..!!!

Was that the probability one? ans to 1 was 4 and second 1,2,3,4 i think... I think I nailed that one actually I understood it. I don't remember what I wrote though lol... but I did figure the question out. I messed up on the section B probability question.. the part B :( The moving averages one had like 4 marks worth of comment questions so I left it and attempted the probability one instead heh.

Yeah the semi averages one, my bad.
Anyway yar, anyone have a good paper on class limits/boundaries? I still don't understand how the board wants us to learn them.... they give weird questions

i think its the first chapter though i am nt sure...but one thing that i am sure abt it is that the class boundaries topic is in one of the maths D3 or D4...u can search the chapters on statistics....  ::)

Post by: syntacus on October 16, 2009, 10:20:59 am
hmm... sorry to hear that. Mine went well..I'm definitely hoping for an A.
Paper 2 was better for me than paper 1...i found it to be easier.
Expectation and index number and the moving averages question was easy, the scaling one i probably messed up though ;(
Title: Re: O level Stats 4040
Post by: slvri on October 16, 2009, 12:01:54 pm
q3 was hard.........i didnt do q7(the scaling one)........expectation was actually good though.........

Did anyone do the scaling one? ( The first question in part B )
And also the last question in part A.
The assumed mean was 299. something right? and the s.d 0.49?
What was to be done in the second part of the question? I just multiplied both the answers by 1000 to get the ans in the thing that was required:/ others did something else though.. dunno.
Also in the true and false question.. I got 2 Trues and 4 False... what about you guys?
Title: Re: O level Stats 4040
Post by: DrEvil on October 22, 2009, 04:17:36 pm
I also multiplied with 1000 but its wrong as said by most of the ppl... :( :( :(

well i got 3 trues and 3 false but most of the ppl got 2 trues and 4 false... :(
Title: Re: O level Stats 4040
Post by: syntacus on October 22, 2009, 06:37:03 pm
Yar i think most of those people are wrong! It makes no sense to leave the s.d at 0.49!!!! You had to multiply by 1000 as the question said that using your answers in part (i) calculate the s.d and mean in kilometers /hour and not thousands of kilometers/hours as given in the question in the previous part! In the first part most of the people gave the mean as . something... but I think the mean was 299. something!
If someone would remember the exact question that was asked.. anyway that is what I remember and I think what I did was correct :|.Not possible that the mean in part (i) was . something and in part (ii) You just added 299 to it... it makes no sense whatsoever..

u are absolutely right dear but i think this is not smthing that we have to decide on ourselves, lets wait fr the rezults now...i hope that our answer will be right... ;) ;) ;)
Title: Re: O level Stats 4040
Post by: syntacus on October 23, 2009, 04:22:45 pm
hmm yeah I guess you are right.
I feel a bit more confident now though because I now know that I wasn't the only one who did the question like this hehe!
Yar really, the paper this time around was very different from before.. I think the percentile will definitely drop and I think one can secure an A at at least 170+
What do you think?
By the way, where from Lahore are you drevil and what school do you go to if you don't mind me asking?
Title: Re: O level Stats 4040
Post by: DrEvil on October 24, 2009, 01:28:40 pm
i think that A will be around 160-165...  :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\ :-\
Title: Re: O level Stats 4040
Post by: syntacus on October 24, 2009, 02:09:01 pm
Hmm yeah usually the percentile fixes at about 92.5% .
This time definitely the paper was more difficult than the previous times, so I'm pretty sure the A percentile will be around that mark 82 - 85 % .
Lets hope for the best!!!!
