Title: A*=90%??

I was wondering whether is it true that an over all 90% gives an A* or not? In my school, they say that in any subject at the IGCSE, u would only get an A* if you achieve 90% or above in the average of all the papers of the subject.
Is this true? Cause if things happen this way, then the grade thresholds are useless, sometimes an A* might just be 80% according to the thresholds ! Im thoroughly confused, someone please tell me. Basicaly how do they grade the paper? On individual components or what?

u dont have to get 90% or above to get an A*
that completely depends on the grade thresholds for that subject...

The A* grade is never included in the GT ....... although, u can figure it out...

for. e.g --> THe mininmum grade for A in physics paper 1 wud be 33

                try n figure out the maximum marks required for an A - approx. 36

therefore, u need 36 above to get an A* in this paper of this subject....

It's percentile, not percentage

90th percentile and above is A*

A* is known as the 95th percentile. This is caluculated using the cumulative frequency graph of all IGCSE Candidates. This is the most fair becasue it determines the best students in that batch and is flexible of varying test standards, because some tests are seen to be easier than others.

So its the 90th percentile or the 95th percentile?

either 90th or 95th percentile, i think its 90th percentile.
so it is like only 10% of the students in the world get an A+

It's 90th percentile...cuz I got 92% in french and still got an A*

nid how did u find out ur percentile :S
CIE doesnt telll u the percentile ...
it just gives out the grade :)

It gives u ur percentile if you pay for the eligibility certificate.....for indian colleges...grades don't do.....so we ask CIE to provide our percentiles to help them make a comparison...

We just paid the school....500 INR
I'll have to find out how to go about it though....

they give someof tht sort in edexcel...its called a gradeometer :)

percentile ...
the top 10 percent ofp pl receive an A*
sometimes tht top then percent ppl cud hav got just 78/100 in a business paper :)
