3 Units if you are talking about Edexcel
Unit 1, Unit 2 and Unit 3 (b) as an alternative to practical

you have unit 1 and unit 2  and (unit 3) which is alternative to practical on the first two units  this is only for AS
now for A2 you have unit 4 and unit 5 and (unit 6 )also alternative to practical on units 4,5
