Hey! Can some one explain question 37 in May/June 08? Thanks ;)

It's C cause when the resistance of one decreases the current passing increases, this increases the voltage across the potential divider which has a higher resistance. do u want me to explain with some figures..it may help..let me know if u don't understand

i'll ans that using the question in year 2005

In this case since 25 is the room temp

a liquid would have a melting point less than this temp and boiling point more than this temp
a solid would have its melting point and boiling point more than this temp
a gas will have its melting and boiling point less than this temp

so in this case the ans will be B.

Post by: nid404 on June 09, 2009, 12:59:04 pm
for q31,o/n 2005 why is the ans A, when resistor is being used

when the switch is closed the current takes the simpler route through the switch(where there is no resistor) and does not pass through R(this is called short circuit). This results in the lamp becoming brighter(as current through it increases)

For Q.33 it's A again because the fuse is connected in the main wire...and not to individual components(i hope u get that). SO if this fuse melts all the lamps stop working

m/j 2005, q21, isnt it supposed to be refraction, D not A diffraction thats what it says in my book
plz help!

refration occurs when speed and wavelength of the waves change..there is nothing of that sort happening. When circular wavelets form it is duffraction(in this case thru a wide gap)

who can explain to me this easy question...nov/04...30..

this is because in this question the current splits to go through the 2 resistors ( so each one gets 1 Amp)
but when the current combines again, it goes back to the normal reading which is 2 amps

i have a question in june 2007, q22 , how the hell would i know that the angle of incidence at mirror Y is 60° ?

90-30=60

this should tell u

angle of incidence is the angle between the normal and the incident ray.

= lilwyne, no problemo..

hurmm...another quest is..how do we know which fuse can we use..? nov/04..34

( november 2004, paper 1, question 34 )
B - the 3 A one

its not 50 A or 10 A because it wil be able to take the current of the mains and lead respectively...and probably affect the hair dryer

u cant put a 1A fuse too because the device needs 2A...

therefore B -- 3A

= lilwyne, no problemo..

hurmm...another quest is..how do we know which fuse can we use..? nov/04..34

it says the hair dryer takes 2amps, and the lead can carry 5amps
so it cant be blow 2amps cuz  then the fuse would blow and hair dryer wont work, and it cant be above 5amps, cuz the hairdryer might get messed up
so it has to be between 2-5, and thonly answer there which is between 2-5 is 3amp fuse

statement : a ray parallel to the princilpe line will always refract and pass through the focus..

here the line at the top passes parallel and refracts and meets at 10cm (from the optical center)

therefore it is 10cm - "B"

DOUBT!!!!!!!!!!!!
QUE.37 MAY08????????????
WY IS IT "C" NUT "D"???

k. i'll use values to explain

take the voltage from the source to be 20V
so current in the first circuit would be-20/200(combined resistance)=0.01
so voltage across each resistor would be 10V(0.01x100) since V=IR

In the second circuit current would be 20/190=0.105
so voltage across 90ohms would be=0.105x90=9.45
and voltage across 100ohms=0.105x100=10.05
so voltage across the higher resistor increases

hope u got that

ohh tks

cud this be the possible explanation
V = I*R
I = V/R
R decreases - I increases

when I increases  V increases too///

(i don't think so)

You guys can someone explain May/June 03 Q 17, does a small temp. rise mean high thermal capacity? The answer according to mark schemes is A.

yes thermal capacity=energy required to raise the temperature of the entire mass of substance by 1oC. So lesser the temp rise more the thermal capacity.
Title: Re: paper 1 physics HERE ONLY~!!!!!!!
Post by: Ghost Of Highbury on June 09, 2009, 04:31:26 pm
thermal capacity = mass * specific heat capacity

specific heat capacity = heat received / (mass * temp change)

if the temp change is the least the specific heat capacity will be the greatest and therefore the thermal capacity will be the greatest

@nid - its k...i guess i'm wrong...thanks anyway

@ thisishard - i think the wavelength increases because the frequency doesn't change

speed = frequency * wavelength

speed increases - frequency constant - wavelength increases...

may/june 2007 question 20 what should i do to answer these kind of questions?

when the wave moves from shallow water to deep water, wavelength increases and the wavefronts move towards the normal. So the ans is C.

Tip-try drawing a normal to the wavefront and check whether refraction is towards the normal or away. if towatds then water is deeper, if away then waves have moved into shallow water

speed =   distance /  time

20=  distance / 10

distance = 200

2 is the slop

200/2

= 100m so i think its right

guys a question plzz help

Why are the electric lamps in a house lighting circuit normally connected in parallel?
A The current in every circuit must be the same.
B The lamps are always switched on and off at the same time.
C The voltage across each lamp must be the mains voltage.
D When one of the lamps blows, all the others go out.

When electricity is transmitted over long distances, energy is wasted. How can the wasted
energy be kept as small as possible?
A Keep the current in the transmission lines as large as possible.
B Keep the power supplied to the transmission lines as large as possible.
C Keep the resistance of the transmission lines as large as possible.
D Keep the voltage supplied to the transmission lines as large as possible.

D. power loss=I2R...so I and R can't be big. It has to be Voltage

ans 6.)  mass of half oil = 1.3 - 0.9 = 0.4
therefore mass of  only full oil in the bottle = 0.4 * 2 = 0.8

therefore mass of only bottle = 1.3 - 0.8 = 0.5

ON 2003 ques.6,21 and 27...dont get them...explain plss :-\

Q.6- okay theoritically say x is the mass of the bottle

then 1.30+x/2=0.90
x=0.50kg

Q.21-waves travel least in shallow water. So check the distance..A is least

Q.27- This is B cuz the steel ball gets attracted to the magnet

21) notice the waves near A
they are different

27.)  i think it shud be B or C

it doesn't matter whether the table is horizontal or not. But a steel magnet is attracted by the magnet. It is B

by experience i know! the watermelons r tempting but most of the time cause they r artificially injected with colours. my friend got jaundice because of that. not that i'm saying india doesn't have good watermelons, but the ones here r known to be the sweetest in the world and all are naturally made (the people here don't use artificial fertillisers because some can't afford it while other's dunno know about it).
lol. just enjoying my watermelon. probably the last good one before coming to india.
