Title: Chemistry Grade help
Post by: XYZ91 on June 07, 2009, 03:13:39 pm
If i miss Paper 1 of Chemistry but take the other papers (ie 2 and 3) will i still get graded? Or will the grade for Chemistry not be published in my in my Statement of Results?

I had a friend who did that with IGCSE's. She got a U. It was by accident though. She slept through the exam.

was the U written on the Statement of results?

ummm...no, u won't see that on the statement of result
statement result only gives you the overall score( A/B/C/D/E) for each subject(chem/bio)
so if u got U for P1, A for P2, B for P3,
the score that appear on your statement of result maybe around B or so
the u will appear when u receive a paper( forgot the name) with all the details
like how many percent u got in P1, and also of course grade per component (p1,p2,p3)...

nonono...
if you got u it means ...
ah..how can i explain it
ok...in a rude manner it simply means you scored below E( from the highest grade it's ABCDEU)..(sorry for the harsh words)
the Chemistry grade is coming from your score in each component (P1, P2,P3, P4,P5)(for more information on the percentage you can check the syllabus)
from what i remember, p1 only worth 20% to your AS score...15% to your A level score
so let's say you get U in P1, A in P2, A in P3
YOUR CHEMISTRY GRADE WILL BE 'A'(maybe B) IN YOUR STATEMENT OF RESULTS
however, you will receive another paper where it's written
that you got U in P1, A in P2, A in P3...you don't need to think much about this because all you need is
the 'A' IN THE STATEMENT OF RESULTS...
that A in the statement of results will be your A level results and that's all u need to worry about...
cheer up....
i swear you can believe me
if you score good marks on the other chemistry papers, you need not to worry .. ;) ;) ;) ;) ;) ;)

hey are you doing all 5 papers together( AS and A2 level together)(p1,p2,p3,p4,p5)
or are u doing the AS only?(p1,p2,p3)
if you're taking the AS only i think you can just retake it on OCT/NOV session??

If you don't sit in an exam, i'm pretty sure you automatically get a U. I know its true for IGCSE's. Not too much about AS.

Don't be silly. Take p1 or else you don't get graded.

what if u miss the p1 and really bad in p2 and p3???

if i understand u correctly (i think i dont) u mean that the person will see nothin on the statement of results but the p2 and p3 will effect the overall chem grade.

and if u retake the the p1,p2 and p3 and then do alevels what then???

PS-this is a reply 4 supersuper

ON MY STATEMENT OF ENTRY, IT SAYS IF A CANDIDATE MISSES ONE PAPER; HIS SUBJECT WILL NOT BE MARKED!

Ummm
actually i'm not sure what will happen when you don't take a component
But i think someone above said that we will got an U for that specific component
if you get an U in P1 but you do fine in other components
i guarantee your statement of results will not be affected because the percentage of P1 is small( In chem, bio, and others)
however (I'm talking about A level) you can see your score details in a piece of paper ( I really forget the name but such a paper does exist! I saw it myself...just ask this to your centre. I got( umm..actually only borrowed it for a while and returned it back) mine from my principals office. Because everybody doing test in my centre is listed in the paper I believe that each centre have such paper for each subject.
I got A in P1 math and I got C in S1 last may-june session and in the statement of results I  got A( because the percentage of p1 in math is 30% and S1 only 20%)

omg......
o my god...
i'm sorry everybody
it seems my conclusion is wrong
YOU WILL NOT GET "U" IF YOU DON'T ATTEND A COMPONENT
U indicates that the candidate has failed to reach standard required for either a pass at A /AS level/ AICE Half-Credit...
NO RESULT indicates that a result cannot be issued because of absence for the whole or part of examination in the syllabus or because of a decision not to issue a result for some other reason
PENDING indicates that a result cannot be issued at present but will follow in due course
that's what written in my AS statement result...
If you do a retake you must take p1,p2,p3 altogether ( this is if you take AS Level now)
or if now you do all 5 papers together, you must retake them all in the next session
so sorry everybody..i should've rechecked it first before i post anything
but what i wrote is true for people that receive U
