Title: Official Thread for AICT Doubts !
Post by: The Golden Girl =D on August 18, 2011, 09:19:54 pm
This is the "Official Thread for AICT Doubts" where you can post ALL your doubts from which ever board you're taking ;)

Make sure that you mention the following when posting your doubt :

1. The board you're taking.
2. The Year and the session e.g. June 2011.
3. The Paper e.g. Unit 1 for Edexcel.
4. The the number of Question you have doubt in.
5. If you can upload the paper in the "Additional Options" it would make it easier for others to answer.

Thank you.

I've attached the excel sheet and the question paper.
Any help would be appreciated!

I couldn't open your file for some reason  :-\
Anyway, here is my file attached. Check your formula with mine, i guess you didn't lock the array. I have used HLOOKUP and it works.

Thank you :) +rep
Your formula was:
=HLOOKUP(LEFT(B5,1),$B$1:$F$2,2,FALSE)
Mine was:
=HLOOKUP(MID(B5,1,1),B1:F2,2,FALSE)
So you're right the problem was with my array - how did you lock it? Did the $ sign come automatically? I selected the mini table cells I wanted to use, i'm guessing that's the wrong way?

One more question.
Do you know how to format cells into pounds for currency? All the PCs I've come across only seem to have the $ and euro option for currency fields (which is especially a problem for the access practicals :/).
Title: Re: Official Thread for AICT Doubts !
Post by: NotAbod on September 23, 2011, 07:01:33 pm
Press f4 to lock the array

Edit: currency depends on your language sittings. Yours is "english US" so you will have $ and euro
Change it to english UK

Abod has already answered the Qs but i think it doesnt matter what your computer settings are as you can always choose a different currency in access/excel etc.

I miss doing these practicals *sigh*
Excuse me for being random  ::)

It gives me peace of mind to know that if I reach a block in the practicals I'm practicing, I've found people who'll probably know the answer (: Thankss.

P.S. Can anyone help me with the product key for MS Access 2007? Even a temporary one? 'Cause the one on my laptop's expired and I really really need it for my practicals. I can't buy the software all over again 'cause everything else works it's just access giving me trouble:(

I see some one breaking rules here.. ::)

1. Giving out license key of a software.
2. Using a fake product
3. Discussing AICT doubts without ME!  :o :o :P

Just kidding! :D

Let me know if you need any help. ;)

By the way, dibss.. make sure to tun off your internet connecting when you enter the key. Because it MIGHT check for key verification on the Microsoft's site if the internet is on.

It didn't work, I tried with the net off. sigh. Nobodyyy (: back to doing your job around here, I see.

O/N 10 P2
They brought a powerpoint practical :o
Q 2, 3 & 6.
How would I go about them? For 2 I tried importing as an object but everything ended up on one slide :/ I doubt I'm meant to do it manually 'cause it's only 1 mark...
Title: Re: Official Thread for AICT Doubts !
Post by: Nobody on October 04, 2011, 03:39:56 pm
check pm for key

Q2.

yeah, like you said... Copy paste it into different slides.
Every slide has a blue heading (so, you know how long a slide should be)

Q3

click on the tab "view" and click the "slide master" button (5th from left)
Now, got to "insert" tab and click "text box".
In the text box type
"<name> <candidate no.> <centre no>"
and then,  place it on the top right corner.

Q6.
go the first slide,
select "Generic features"
right click it
click "hyperlink"
when the dialog box opens,
click "Place in this document"
now, you'll see the slide headings..select the slide that you wish to hyperlink with
now, then you've selected the slide number, press "print scrn" on your keyboard (for evidence or what ever method you use for evidence purpose) BEFORE CLICKING "OK"
and now click "ok"

done. ;D

Anything more?

HELP REQUIRED >>>>> MAY JUNE 2009

How do I do task 10
"Select from all the records only the customers that have booked more than one
holiday. Calculate for each of these customers the average price of their holidays.
Include within the report only the Forename, Surname and the summary data.
Group this data by the number of holidays booked. Sort the data within each group into
ascending order of Surname, then into ascending order of Forename. For each group
show the number of customers and the average cost of the holidays. Make sure that
the average costs are formatted into the same currency format as the cost field.
Add the title Customers with more than one holiday to the report. Make sure that the
report fits on a single page and that all data and labels are visible.".

I will assume that you've solved the previous questions correctly.

Steps:
Create a new query using "Query Design"
add the four tables
add the fields: Forename, surname, cost and CustRef from the table J9cust.
click the "Sigma symbol" to show totals.
under custref's criteria, write ">1" and change "Group by" to "Count" (Select from all the records only the customers that have booked more than one holiday). CustRef is unique for every customer.
from the dropdown list of totals of "Cost", choose Avg (average).
Save your query.
Create a new report using report wizard.
choose your query and the four fields
click next.
group the data by "CountofCustRef"
click next, sory data into ascending order of surname and then ascending order of forename.
Change page layout to landscape.
click finish.
go to report's design view.
click on group and sort, and choose to show CountofCustRef Footer.
in the countofcustref footer, add a text box and paste "=avg[avgofcost]"
add your name/centre number.

Done

I've attached my working files, use them.

Specimen 2008. Can anyone plz help me out , cz i got no idea what to write.

The company owns a website with a URL of www.southindiamotors.co.in

This advertises the company’s products. In recent weeks another website has appeared with
a URL of             www.southindiamotors.net

This website pretends to advertise the company products but gives some comparisons with
other vendors’ products which are not very favourable.

The board of directors are very upset with this new website. You must word
process a brief, single page report to be given to the press explaining why
websites are not always what they appear to be. Identify any features of the
website which would show its lack of credibility. Your report will be less than
300 words. Place your name, centre number and candidate number on the
report. Save and print this report.

1- How time management softwares help in organising tasks like development of a website

2- Details about public and private encryption keys

3-Features of software used to control call centre operations

4- Data flow diagrams, and system flowcharts, how do they help with the analysis of the current system

5- Factors influencing input and output layouts

6- Describe the process of evaluation

7- Different items a system analyst will include at the design stage, and explain the factors that will influence the choice of each item (from m/j 2008, question 3a)

8- Role of computer in plate making and typesetting

9- Social and ethical implications of bank workers being able to access customer's personal information (and I thought I'm done with biology; social and ethical implications chasing me in AICT too!)

10- Advantages and disadvantages of advertising on somebody else's website, rather than creating your own

11- Details of system and program documentation

12- Describe the outputs of payroll system

and if you have any helpful notes/websites for AS AICT, please post them too.
Thanks in advance.
