Guys Im really confused which Math I have to take for A-level. Im gonna do either Chemical engineering or Pharmacy so which one should I take? Statistic? Mechanic or Pure Math?
-
u want the easy way or the hard way?
-
If you mean the optional papers in the CIE 9709 syllabus, then go for M1 and S1. Best of both worlds. =D Since P2 is virtually a useless paper, it's pretty much a part of what is in P3 and not much else. M1 is predominately Physics and S1 is a statistical exam, which will aid you in any field you pick of the two.

P3 and P1
and if u won't the easy way M1 and S1
The hard way is M1 and M2 <--- I did this and it is tough tbh
-
Pure 3 (A2) Is just horrible. Do your best not to take it haha :P its scary

It's compulsory.
-
P3 isn't hard mate.... :-\
-
So pure maths 1 & 3 right?

Okay, listen MU you need to understand that in AS and A2 you have to pick 4 options overall from 7 ones.
The 7 papers are :
Paper 1 : P1 Pure Mathematics 1
Paper 2 : P2 Pure Mathematics 2
Paper3 : P3 Pure Mathematics
Paper 4 : M1 Mechanics 1
Paper 5 : M2 Mechanics 2
Paper 6 : S1 Probability and Statistics 1
Paper 7 : S2 Probability and Statistics 2
Okay now you can choose for AS one of the following combinations :
Pure 1 is compulsory.
1) Pure 1 and Mechanics 1
2) Pure 1 and Pure 2
3) Pure 1 and Statistics 1
For A-level :
Pure 1 and Pure 3 (compulsory) with either :
1) Mechanics 1 and Statistics 1
2) Mechanics 1 and Mechanics 2
3) Statistics 1 and Statistics 2
Now I did for A-levels P1, P3, M1 and M2.
But I'd suggest you take P1, P3, M1 AND S1, since P1, M1 and S1 are AS subjects so they will be easy.
I hope you got anything from the above explanation.
You should also check the syllabus for each of the 7 options and see which suits your mind better. >> http://www.scribd.com/doc/9907089/A-Level-Mathematics-2009

Well, definitely not Statistics (in my opinion, those two majors you mentioned have nothing related to statistics)
-
Are you taking CIE or edexcel?

Good choice.
You can then take for A2 P3 and M1. =]

Hold on.
If you are taking P1 and P2 for AS, you will surely have to take P3 along with two from S1, S2, M1 and M2.

No it's not necessary ;)
P2 is not compulsory................I did only P1, P3, M1 and S1 ;)
So I give the same advice as Mony :D

I know it is not. I was telling the exception part.

Never knew that.
It's useless taking P2 then if you're going to take the rest anyways.
P1, P3, M1 and S1 is the best option.

Yes, but it improves one's AS grades.

Ok thanks a lot guys, it really helped me!

You mean improve your A2 also.
I used to practice P2 so that I improve in P3.

Yes, exactly. But candidates don't intend to take, only because they have to give one paper more, which can stress them out.
Doing the same, i.e. practicing the P2 papers first before going to solve all the P3 papers.
