Title: CIE AS LEVEL MATHS 9709 SELF PREPERATION IN 2 MONTHS???
Post by: ram267 on August 08, 2011, 09:07:02 am
???Its been three years since I studied Maths, that was at O level, where I got a B, and now I intend to appear in the CIE AS Level Mathematics (Syllabus Code 9709) exam in the Oct/Nov 2011 session. I will take papers P1 (Pure Mathematics) and M1 (Mechanics).
I have about 2 months until the first paper.
I am not studying at any school or college at the moment, so I will appear privately, and have to prepare all by myself, as I also want to avoid spending any extra money in hiring a private tutor or joining any academy etc.
So whats the best way of self preparation in my situation? Any good books? Or anywhere I can get help from the internet, like video tutorials etc?
I am really worried as I have little time to prepare, so would really appreciate good replies to help me out

This book (http://www.amazon.com/Pure-Mathematics-International-Cambridge-Examinations/dp/0521530113/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_b) will guide you through Pure Mathematics 1 and this (http://www.amazon.com/Mechanics-International-Cambridge-Examinations/dp/0521530156/ref=pd_bxgy_b_img_c) for Mechanics 1. You have to buy them.

This is a good revision site for A level. (http://s-cool.co.uk/alevel.html)

Post your doubts here for respective papers. (https://studentforums.biz/math-146/)

Khan Academy videos might solve your further problems.

With your background I doubt you will be able to achieve a good grade in your AS-Level. There is a stark difference between the difficulty of O-Level and AS-Level--you have not been in touch with CIE O-Level for three years, which means your basic concepts are weak already. The grade you sustained was not remarkable, too. And you have comparatively a very short time period to study for these two exams--even if you studied day and night from the best reference books on the market, you are unlikely to score higher than a B. I suggest you take private tuition or an academy, to the least, because you are unlikely to be equipped with enough practice and understanding to handle an AS-Level Mathematics exam and achieve a good grade.

However, to your original question: Ancestor has them already covered. Also, if you own an android/iPhone/iPod/iPad, this should be a good app to use: Here (https://studentforums.biz/reviews-209/best-smartphone-apps/)

I didn't find it, the school gave it to me. :(

Though really xD I found it moderate in contrast with other AS-Level subjects, but whopping hard compared to others. :D Plus, I didn't give M1 in AS; my M1 exam went horrid in A2. :(
