Title: SF Book Club
Post by: Romeesa-Chan on June 18, 2011, 09:41:16 pm
Hey all,

Decided on opening a book club for all book lovers. :D
We can talk about:

-Books we like/dislike and why.
-Discussion on similar books we have read/would like to read.
-Recommend books to other members (depending if you like similar genres).
-Suggestion before buying a book.
-ANYTHING related to books.
:D

I hope you all have a nice time here. :D

Let me start:
*Best book ever- The Holy Quran. Apart from being the Holy book of our religion. It is simply a guidance for everyday matters. It invites to a study of natural and mathematical sciences, philosophy, literature and all the branches of knowledge accessible to humanity, the learning of which is in the interest of humanity and brings happiness to humanity. The Quran invites to these branches of knowledge on condition that people are guided by this knowledge to truth and know the real world which is headed by Godliness.
Most important of all, Quran is a cure for all our spiritual ailments.

*Book which truly touched me, A Thousand Splendid Suns by Khaled Hosseini.
The author is gifted. He has an amazing writing style, his story is absolutely compelling on every level. A must read. :D

*Harry Potter series by JK Rowling. <3 I need not say much on this except that I love JK for writing this book. :P

Okay first of all, I DEFINITELY agree to that! I'll +rep you TWICE for that!

Like seriously this book is not just a book of religion..if any person either a Muslim or a NON-Muslim study it they will discover A LOT about wisdom, logic, common sense and it even got scientific stuff(written 1400 years ago) which wasn't even discovered by scientists but until some time soon.

This is an awesome thread I'm going to post A LOT of books I read here!
I love reading. :D

I watched the movie 'The Kite Runner' but haven't read the book. Many people speak of how amazing the book is but to be honest..the movie was just enough for me to fall in love with the story. It taught me a lot..just watching that movie really did make me realize many things I never realized before. <3

I read lots of novels so I don't know how this helps but a good novel I read was Morning Lavender and it was a very good one.

I love all Jane Austen's books. I read few of them and the rest..I watched the movies instead.

Julia Quinn is another good author I must say. She writes romantic classic novels and I always admired the classics. :D

Yaay! Lavender is my fav. flower! ^^

Jane Austen is amazing! I've read a few and bought more of her books- which I will be finishing in summer, IA. :D

I love classics and romance adds up more. :D

Lol. ^^

I have the Twilight series and I have read them and I like them.
That was all before the movie craziness was out.
It had a decent story and I liked Edward (my dream man).

But, after the movie was released . . . . I stopped liking Twilight. Robert Pattinson ruined the whole thing. Jerk ::)

i love reading novels especially when it has series !! my forever fav is  The house of night !! i would suggest this to anyone who likes fantasy  !!! its about vampires  but tbh it has very many things that happens in real life !!  read 8 of them till now cant wait 4 the 9 part to come out in november !!  <3 <3  <3  :D :D

omg who ever can say that !! !!!!! it is awesome !!!
although his books come underthe fiction area  there are so many non fiction -- informative stuff !! <3 <3 !!

just finished reading paulo coelho the winner stands alone !!! the story line is good  but his way of writing !!! omg nooooooooooooooooooo  i so hate it  never going to read his novels again !!  he talks about too much of rubbish which is no where needed or related to the story line !!!! Boring !!! hate hate hate !  >:( >:( >:( >:(

another book i hated was !!! ( i can never hate books but these are the exceptions ! )  the girl with the silver eyes by i guess willo davis !!  omg !! i read the book all along to get a pathetic ending !  its just the crazy ending that made me hate the book ! time waste !!  >:( >:( >:(

James hadley chase is another writer i like ! havent read any of his books ! but know the story of one or two!!  the way he puts all the thriller together is amzing !! going to read his books as soon as i can get a hand on them !!

right now going to start a painted house by john grisham !!

i aint a book addict but i love reading novels !!

just finished reading paulo coelho the winner stands alone !!! the story line is good  but his way of writing !!! omg nooooooooooooooooooo  i so hate it  never going to read his novels again !!  he talks about too much of rubbish which is no where needed or related to the story line !!!! Boring !!! hate hate hate !  >:( >:( >:( >:(

That first line is contradicting itself......

Same here; hate Paulo Coelho, a bumbling old fool is what I would call him, hate Agatha Christie too...

Nice thread Romeesa!!

Here's a book list I would recommend:

1. Enid Blyton; Famous five, Secret Seven etc...
2. Eoin Colfer; Artemis Fowl series, supernatural etc...
3. Christopher Paolini; Eragon, Eldest, Brisingr...
4. Robert Ludlum; stand-alone spy thrillers, definitely worth a read, though you may get intimidated by the length and complexity... for advanced readers
5. Terry Brooks; Shannara series; dark fantasy, for advanced readers.
6. Alistair McLean; amazing use of language. stand alone spy/action thrillers, generally nautical in nature, of moderate length.

Ah well, call me a nerd, but I love novels (and hate study books).... and no, I don't wear thick-rimmed glasses, or any glasses for that matter....

I mentioned a link today in this thread that I created, though probably no one has seen it. Its beautiful, its an article regarding Quran...
http://www.sunnipath.com/library/Books/B0039P0002.aspx

So awesome ain't it.

AND Harry Potter...OF COURSE...xD

What's this exactly about? Is it related to religion in any way ?

It is.

Hmmmm. . .  It is a story about the childhood experiences of fraternal twins whose lives are destroyed by the "Love Laws" that lay down "who must be loved, and how, and how much". The book is a description of how the small things in life affect people's behavior and their lives. (:

Not exactly related to religion.

@woteverr, I researched it! BUT Nook now became number 1!

You have kobo?

I really find the idea of e-readers AWESOME. It saves place and money if you don't go to a publish library.
I paid 200 SR just for 5 books and the e-reader is for like 500 SR and you can read as much books as you want for free!

@rOM, me too but I don't find it comfortable reading on the laptop. I tried it once only when reading a novel for Julia Quinn.

@Woteverr, kindle is good but you get like 2 million free books and later on you have to pay for the books you wanna read because they must be from Amazon. I also heard it's not available in KSA and doesn't work well there.

Also Nook isn't in KSA, I'm buying it from States inshAllah.

There are 3 which I researched about and they are Kindle, Nook and Kobo.

Nook is the best of them. In Kindle there are special rules and all..=/

I was going to buy Kobo but then just recently Nook released a new version which is great and so then my dad found Nook is better even though it's slightly expensive from Kobo.

I got many awesome e-book websites and I downloaded 22 books so far. I don't know how I'll be able to finish all of them but I'm very excited in reading them all. ;D
