Title: CIE glitch?
Post by: secureprivacy on January 24, 2011, 02:52:43 am
About 10s of guys (no coincidence here i think) at my school are getting 100% for Chemistry, Physics, and Biology. Is this a glitch?
Anyone?

I'm in Senior College at the moment in Auckland. U? And yeah, I'm curious as to whether any non-Newzealanders are experiencing the same thing

Same thing happened to some people at my school... Macleans College. My results seemed far higher than I expected as well (no 100s though), so either there's a glitch or the marks have been scaled up by a very large amount this time. I read an article which said that there were a record number of A stars and As this session, so it may be the scaling after all...

Yes. Here as well. One student in my school got 100 in Computing AS. Another got 100 in physics AS.

I've heard (not confirmed) that CIE is adopting a marking system based on the country. Like, for one country, the max mark is 100. The highest mark in the world is where the scale is the highest.

i have no idea about that , but in most A Level syllabuses ,

A candidate who achieves
… the minimum mark necessary for a Grade A obtains a percentage uniform mark of 80

that does not mean you need 80% of the total marks to get an A
it means the marks set by cambridge for the achievement of grade A with minimum marks is equal to 80%

and a 100% isn't a 100% .. you're bound to make mistakes. CIE is tough.
it means you got more than the minimum marks required for A* but those marks map onto 100%
my guess is, anything above 170/200 was equal to that in my exam but i'm sure for Math it was around 185/200.
