A woman in America was playing a game of Farmville on facebook..... murdered her newborn because it kept crying and interrupting her game play sessions.

yup, i read something about that. apparently she "shook" her baby to death..  :-\
but of course, farmville doesn't "promote" violence. imo the mother was had an addiction to it, and that coupled with what seems to be some serious anger management problems made her do what she did

I don't think all video games promote violence.

It depends on the mindset of the player. If they get too influenced, they will be violent. However, most adults/teens understand that a video game is nothing close to reality. Incidents where video game has promoted violence is very rare. They only get more publicity, thats it.!

Ah.

Same here.

I was actually confused on Fifa 11 and this Black Ops.
Price is a bomb man. I only bought 2 games in 2010.
But the recent experience of call of duty , medal of honour and kill zone series swayed me towards Black Ops.

:D

Videogames can trigger many different conditions or situations, like:

-obsessive compulsive disorder
-depression (more likely depressed ppl might play too much more or less like drinking too much)
-addictions (like the woman who killed a baby, or chinese players who stab some other player due to some mmorpg dispute)
-Shouting way too much bad words while playing, not directly related to violence, but...

Absolutely! Depends on how we take it. As matter of fact, everything in life does! :D

I somehow agree with Styish Executive's post. 15-16+ realize that the scenes in video games don't exist in reality and they shouldn't be taken serious.

But speaking honestly, I played video games like Grand Theft Auto series, Bullworth Academy and those like Medal of Honour at the age of 12-13 At that time I use to think myself as a street gang member in future and doing these tricks. Later I realized that its bad and all but yeah it might provoke someone else to like these things. Some of these games do promote violence like those being produced by Rockstar games.

Yes, GTA SA does contain materials which are not suitable for kids. That's why it has got a "M" rating. ;)

And its really silly that they are pondering over that petty 'hot coffee' thing! ::)
