how can we determine which are the functional group of a organic compound. Can someone explain me for this compound 3-methyl-hex-2-enol
-
the answer for that is that -OH is functional froup for 3-methyl-hex-2-enol.
-
is OH only the functional group for that compound?
-
I think CH3 (methyl) is a functional group too.
-
in marking scheme i found alkene also functional group. Can anyone explain me why alkene is also functional group?

Alkenes have characteristic properties.They have a general formula CnH2n.

Common functional groups.
-> R-COOH = acidic group
->R- OH = alcohol group
->R - COO - R' = Ester group
->R - CHo = Aldehyde group
O
||
-> R - C - R' - Ketone group
These are the groups which I'm aware of, apparently.

Yup.

for the compound 3-methyl-hex-2-enol , alkene is also considered as functional group but how???

The functional groups are methyl, alcohol and alkene groups.
3-methyl-hex-2-enol is an alkene consisting of two OH groups of atoms. The fact that it is an enol makes it an alkene.
Otherwise it would have been simply said to be 3-methyl-hex-2-anol
Just like for hexene and hexane.
Hexene is an alkene while hexane is an alkane. For this compound, it contains two OH groups each from the 1 carbon forming the carbon-carbon double bond.
Hope it helps :)
