How was the paper guys ? :)
-
good, some would say it was one of the hardest p2, and harder than p1, but i did well :) u ?
-
It was okay too :), What did you write for question number 3 (describe a picture). ?
-
the relief part ?
i just said some steep slopes at the top and gentler near the bottom etc
-
out of 60 how much do u think how much do you think the threshold for a A
-
it was soooo easyyyy :o :o :o :o :o :o :o
-
the relief part ?
i just said some steep slopes at the top and gentler near the bottom etc
for 4 marks?
-
it was an ok paper, i think i didnt get the right answer for gradient :(
the topics were almost all the same as October/November 2008 !!
i hated it when they gave us the answers in the south africa qs. when they saidd factors that affect location of industry .. =\
whats the point of studying then!
-
i actually found the paper hard.. espesically that relief question...
-
For relief question, I just wrote like this :
Steep slope.
Tropical rainforests.
There are many green plants.
Tall trees.
There are some farmer’s houses.
There are many trees on highest land.
There are many trees on steepest slope
Because before the exam I read the examiner report, and they said for describe an image, candidates need to write as much as what they can see.
-
i found the paper hard too... no use for studyin facts for this paper i guess :(...
-
but would the rainforest be counted as part of the relief?
-

You've described vegetation and human features as well. The question only asked for relief i.e. the shape of the land.
-
I wrote that because I saw on next question, they said "this is natural rainforest....bla....bla" :)
The next question, my answer is "On the highest land, on the steepest slope".
what did you write for relief question ?
-
Only one human feature, hehe,
Do you think I can get 4 marks ?
-
i wanted to write about green trees tall n stuff but didnt since it asked relief... do we get mrks if we do write about vegetation???
-
I wrote that because I saw on next question, they said "this is natural rainforest....bla....bla" :)
The next question, my answer is "On the highest land, on the steepest slope".
what did you write for relief question ?
I wrote on the highest land and in the valley.
-
lol guys u know that relief means to do with the land ( height shape etc ), adding stuff about rainforests is vegetation and u dont get marks for it.
-
anyway how did you do the gradient question?
-
I divided the 4650m from the previous answer by 45m (height differential). 1 in 103.333333333333.
-
i put 4900m / 45m :-\
-
i put 4900m / 45m :-\
Either way, you still got the gradient q correct.
-
wat was da ans of 'how earthquakes will develop in the area '??????????
wat they meant by "features of distribution????????????????????
-
how they develop- i talked about how oceaninc plate goes under continental, different densities, subduction zone, friction n tension, released by sudden jerk causing earthquake
distribution- east or west coast, on land or on sea, on which plate (like one of them were more on the philipine plate), north or south etc.
-
Features of Distribution is one mark each, right ?
Yes, I wrote like that.
For the next question, I think I wrote like this :
The pacific plate and Eurasian plate moving towards each other, one is to the north west and one is to the south east.
I think I wrote more but I can't remember.
-
features is 1 mrk each but there r 3 of them.
-
Anyways, for the question about Maori and New Zealand. Did you write that the population in Maori will increase too ? What's your reasons for that ?
-
i wrote yes, since new zeland- birth rate is shrinking, n maori its high n steady... hence if it continues, maori will hav greater proportion etc...
By the way, i looked at past papers, n zimbawe seemed to pop up a lot.. ???
-
i wrote it would because around 48% are aged 0-14/19, after 50 years they will grow and if each produces 1 child or more the population would increase fast
-
i put 4900m / 45m :-\
i wrote the same thing! But the answer wrong.. :-[
-
lol its funny because 2 days ago i was reading bout the gradient and stuff, then stopped cuz i thought it wouldnt come up :P but luckily its only 1 mark
-
Relief
I wrote:
Steep sided hills.
Concave slope hills in the middle as the slope becomes gentler as height decreases.
Valley floor
Mountains in background
Possibly plateau due to a house situated on top of the hill.
Several peaks and a possible small hill saddle.
By the way, i got the pie chart question wrong loool. I calculated 20 degrees by mistake -.-. Oh well 1 mark.

yup ur answer for relief is correct, and the pie chart is 3 marks >.< u may get a mark for colouring in the sector with the correct key :P

Aha who cares its over now. I estimated the worse i can get is 57/60 (theres another question about powerlines in richland) so no worries :).
Anyone know the grade boundaries for an A* overall?
-
i wrote similar things to padapop but i also commented on the fact that the hill in the foreground was much steeper than the hills in the background.
-
i put 4900m / 45m :-\
i wrote the same thing! But the answer wrong.. :-[
i put the same thing too :( but i got 4 650, not 4900
about the powerline, was it neither? because thats what i put although im not entirely sure about it...
-
i put the powerline thing as neither as well. for the gradient i used 45/4650. what did u write for the windmill question. it was a bit confusing.
-
the answers were there and it was so hard to use ur own words :S
for affecting the enviornment, i wrote less air pollution but also more visual pollution
for energy supplies i wrote they increase only slightly because although windmills are renewable, wind is variable (i wrote something along those lines, not exactly the same)
what did u write for excavation or quarries in the same table? did u get neither as well like the powerlines?
-
yes!
-
yup, same with me , thats why i was confused. they always seem to have only 1 'neither' but in the exam i got 2. thats why i was confused ???
-
Do we have to use our own words for windmill question ?
-
yah i guess so but really u couldnt use ur own words :S they made it simple !
-
hey ok the horizontal distance was 1000 to 1100m its like a triangle tht ditace whihc is 4650 was the hypo and the the horizontal length was like to draw aline dowm fromthe brigde and then make a horizont linemeeting with tht 945 thingand then u get it :-\
and i found it easy not as hard asppl say it :P
-

Yeah dude, I did that too :o
I got 1100 m, cuz i took a line down the map from the bridge, and took a line going outward from the height -_-. Cuz I read horizontal distance, mabe i got confused ??? GUYS, MORE PEOPLE ANSWER. What'd you DO?! ???
-
wellzmnigcse tht is right because tht is the horitontall height!!! ;D
ok thepie chart answer was 72 i got tht wrong i estimate the damn angle :-[ i was like 360 is to 100 i said tht 45 degree will be 25% so fromtht i did all the calculation but i got it wrong at the end DOH
the industry one was esay for us eco and business students ::) :D
now its time for paper4
-
i think both of u guys got the gradient q wrong cause it said calculate the gradient of the road from the bridge to the 945m point.
-
soooo, wa ans did u get???????????
-
i think it was somin like 0.009.
-
yah godfather is right. but i divided it the opposite way round :'(
-
yah i guess so but really u couldnt use ur own words :S they made it simple !
I could, but I read on the question "answer from source or something like that".
Do you think I still get any marks ?
-
of course you will! you couldnt use ur own words anyways :S
-
Lol, the gradient question seems to be unknown.. anyway all i remember is doing 115000 divided by 900... or something like that.... anyway paper 4 next... i reallly have a persisting hunch that settlements will be in paper 4...
-
tha answer to the gradient q was 103.33333. look at the past papers if you don't believe me.
-
the fact that it said gradient = 1 in confused me. i got the same answer as u anonymous, but i just put 0.009. if u do 1/0.009 u get 103.333.
-
I believe the 1 in x means that the ground elevates 1m every xm.
-
Im losing at least 3-5 marks :(
What do you think the grade boundaries would be?
-
of course you will! you couldnt use ur own words anyways :S
I read the examiner tips on http://www.cambridgestudents.org.uk/
They said, If there is a question that ask to refer from the resource, and the candidates just copy them, they will not get any marks.
I got so many marks lost. :(
-
i got 103 for the gradient, i hope thats the answer.
and how could u not use the words given to u :S they were too simple! whats a synonym for air pollution? pollutiing the air?!! same thing ;D ;D inshlla we will get the marks ::)
i hope paper 4 is easier. i absolutely hate that paper.
